Accomplishments

Dr. Gehan Dhameeth, Assistant Professor of Business, conducted a workshop on Friday, May 27th, 2016 for faculty at St. Benedict’s College, Colombo, Sri Lanka, on Classroom Management. Also, on Saturday, May 28th, 2016, Dr.Gehan Dhameeth was honored as the Guest of Honor at the University of Wales Sri Lanka Chapter Annual Conference and delivered a talk on “scholars’ contribution to a sustainable economy.”

In December of 2015, Dr. Gehan Dhameeth, Assistant Professor of Business, presented a paper in Tokyo, Japan on “Assessing and Modeling Marketing Strategies for Undergraduate Markets in the United States”  as the Session Chair for Business Track at The International Symposium on Business and Social Science. Gehan Dhameeth, Assistant Professor of Business, published a collaborative paper on “Producing Ethanol from Switchgrass; A Literature Review on a Business Feasibility” with Mr. Dino Constantine (Wells Graduate with an Individualized Major in Business). The paper was published in “Journal of Basic and Applied Research International- ISSN 2395-3438”

Gehan Dhameeth, Assistant Professor of Business, Deborah A. Gagnon, Associate Professor of Psychology, and Gregory Moore, were involved in the Publication: Journal of Management and Sustainability, Topic: Factors Mediating between Employee Strategy Awareness and Commitment to Organizational Success.

This study tested a theoretical model that includes seven factors hypothesized to mediate between employee organizational strategy awareness and commitment. The mediating factors include diffusion and innovation, social exchange, economic exchange relationship, job satisfaction, knowledge sharing and satisfaction, trust, and person-organization fit. Employees (n=130) drawn from all organizational levels in 12 business sectors (financial, manufacturing, aviation, distribution, healthcare, mining, agriculture, consumer goods, technology, telecommunications, oil and gas, education) were surveyed to measure organizational strategy awareness, organizational commitment, and values on the seven mediating factors. Results were discussed in the paper in detail.

Gehan Dhameeth, Assistant Professor of Business, participated in two programs conducted in Sri Lanka in the month of July 2014. Both programs were conducted at Taj Samudra Hotel, Colombo, Sri Lanka. The first program was a guest speech on “Challenges in Sharing Marketing Knowledge” with special references to Cultural Perspectives. This speech was delivered in line with specific areas such as culture, numbers, theories, sustainability, value addition, and current trends and how these factors impinge to knowledge (marketing knowledge) sharing.

The second program was a workshop on “Strategic Planning for Sustainable Competitive Advantage”. This program was provided withmain theoretical and practical aspects to business strategy from strategic vision to actions.This program familiarized all constituencies (corporate leaders, entrepreneurs, functional managers, and graduate and undergraduate students) with the paradox of globalization and localization perspectives. The central aimof theworkshopwasto develop awareness of the elements that shapes strategy, such as macro factors (political, economic, socio-cultural, and technological), and micro factors (corporate capabilities, vision, mission, culture, and business domain). Theworkshop therefore, provided a business perspective while emphasizing the importance of remaining connected at local and global levels while maintain competitive advantage.
