Wells College Receives High Ranks in College Reviews

Wells College has been ranked as a Best National Liberal Arts College in the U.S. News Best Colleges 2012 rankings. According to the U.S. News, the College ranked 127th, an increase from last year’s 144th ranking in the same category. According to the U.S. News, the Best National Liberal Arts category is defined as a liberal arts college emphasizing undergraduate education while awarding at least half of their degrees in the arts and sciences.

“Wells College being named a Best National Liberal Arts College recognizes the quality of a Wells education, as well as recognizing the College as a leader in equipping students with the skills and appreciation for a lifetime of learning,” said Wells College President, Lisa Marsh Ryerson. “This ranking also acknowledges the highly qualified faculty at Wells College.”

The U.S. News Best Colleges rankings are based on grouping schools into categories created by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.  The 2012 U.S. News Best Colleges guidebook is available online and will be on newsstands September 20.

Recently, Wells College also earned high rankings in Forbes annual list of the nation’s top 650 undergraduate colleges. Wells ranked 118th among Forbes list of America’s Best Colleges and Universities. According to the editors at Forbes, the rankings are based on “educational outcomes, not reputation,” and fewer than 10% of all accredited postsecondary institutions in the United States even qualify for inclusion on the list.

In addition, The Princeton Review named Wells College as a Best Northeastern College, and as a “college best” in its review of the Best 376 Colleges. The College was also ranked 14th by The Princeton Review under the Academics/Administration category for “Class Discussions Encouraged.”
