Hello All,

With the goal of providing more opportunities for students to safely gather and share time together, the Collegiate Cabinet and Division of Student Affairs are co-sponsoring an event we are calling the “Sommer Smash,” this Friday, April 9 at the Sommer Center.

“What exactly is Sommer Smash? Is it a dance? A social?!” We’re glad you asked.

Sommer Smash is a social event for students to sit down, relax, compete in fun trivia, and hang out while listening to music in the Upper portion of Sommer Center. Seating areas will be arranged to allow for social distancing and the room capacity under COVID will be observed.

For those students who are 21 and up, there will be a special VIP section with a bar and a set drink list. There will also be a snack area at the event and prizes for trivia. Downstairs, the Well will remain open as it is normally.

Drink Tickets: Students 21 and over will receive a limit of 3 drink tickets for the evening. You are not permitted to share tickets since the limit is three per student. Drink options include a drink dedicated to this year’s graduating class named The Oddwina.
Drink selections:
Angry Orchard Hard Cider
Chardonnay
The Oddwina – blueberry juice with vodka, edible glitter, lemon sour juice

“How is this going to work!?” Another excellent question.

The event is in the Sommer Center this Friday, April 9, with two times available for RSVP: the first from 6 – 7:45pm and the second from 8-9:45pm. Pre-registration is required by going to this website: Sommer Smash Registration All attendees will be required to be COVID tested on Friday, prior to the event. Times and locations for testing will be sent after successful registration.

For each time slot there will be ONLY 26 seats available for the bar area. Students will have IDs checked upon entry and will receive a bracelet and will be able to proceed into the bar area. 30 spots will be available for those who are not eligible or do not wish to go into the bar area.

We want to keep bringing you events like this, and the only way to do that is to make sure everyone acts responsibly. During this event, please ensure that you are abiding by our Student Conduct Policies. Below are some policies that we would like to highlight at this event as a reminder of our alcohol policies: Student Handbook

Public intoxication: Public intoxication or drunken behavior which results in the destruction of property, or conduct that is disorderly, disruptive and/or disrespectful to any member of the campus community.
Alcohol: Students must abide by New York State and federal law in the purchase, distribution and/or consumption of alcohol. The following constitute specific violations of the alcohol policy:

• All students must be able to show a valid form of identification showing their date of birth at any time they possess or consume alcohol.
• If proof of age cannot be established, the alcohol may be confiscated and disposed of by a campus safety officer.
• Students must be 21 years of age or older to consume or possess alcohol on any property owned or operated by Wells College. As the use of alcohol by those of legal drinking age is permitted on campus, the responsibility for complying with all policies and procedures applying to the possession, use, sale, purchase and service of alcohol on any property owned or operated by Wells College lies solely with each individual community member.

If you have any questions regarding violations, policies, student conduct questions, please reach out to the Director of Residence Life and Student Conduct: vtackman@wells.edu
