Gregg Sargis, Natural Climate Solutions Specialist, explained that The Nature Conservancy is working to restore tree cover through tree planting projects in New York State to sequester and store carbon, improve water quality, and provide wildlife habitat. A pilot project was launched in the fall of 2023 where 1,700 trees were planted to serve as demonstration and testing ground for scaling up tree planting projects across the region.
