The Finger Lakes area is home to many small farms and businesses related to the production of fibers for the textile arts. Farmers raise plants and animals as sources of fiber, while local artisans and craft enthusiasts utilize these fibers to create beautiful and utilitarian works of art.
Our tour of some local fiber farms and craft centers will give participants a view of how yarns and textiles begin, as well as how they are used by some Finger Lakes artists. We will also have opportunities to purchase locally-made items.
Carol Gyory Fitzsimons ’72 will demonstrate “Painting with Fiber,” a technique she utilizes to produce landscapes and other nature-themed works. Participants will have the opportunity to try Carol’s techniques on a small project. To learn more about Carol’s works, visit her website Carol Fitzsimons Fiber Art.
There will also be time for participants to work on their own fiber-arts projects while enjoying the serene beauty of the Wells campus and Cayuga Lake, as well as the opportunity to sample local cuisine and beverages.
PROGRAM INCLUDES: three nights’ lodging on campus, all meals on campus (3 breakfasts, two dinners), transport to all program events, admission fees, welcome reception, and supplies for “Painting with Fiber” demonstration.
