Wells Students Volunteer for AIDS Ride for Life

Five students and two professors staffed a pit stop along the 100-mile course.
September 13, 2016

This fall, seven members of the Wells community once again supported the regional AIDS Ride for Life. Kevin Miles, Director of the Sullivan Center for Business and Entrepreneurship, Associate Professor of Sociology Daniel Renfrow and five Wells students staffed the Verdi Signs Pit Stop in Montezuma, where they distributed drinks and snacks to riders completing the 100-mile course around Cayuga Lake. The College became involved with the Ride for Life when Gabrielle Cook '12 completed a sociology internship with the Southern Tier AIDS Program (www.stapinc.org), which provides supportive services to HIV+ persons and state of the art prevention education.

The students who participated were: Karina Abreu '19 (Bronx, NY), Andre Johnson '19 (Individualized Major: Health Sciences: Pre-Medical; Staten Island, NY), Lily Malloy '19 (Wyoming, NY), Greg Miraglia '20 (Port Byron, NY), and Hakeem Rihan '18 (Biology; Bronx, NY). This year the Wells group was accompanied by medical support from the Poplar Ridge Fire Department.

We'd like to especially thank Professor Miles and the student team in The Grind for generously providing breakfast and snacks for the volunteers!
