Statement Regarding David Hewitt

On March 28, 2023, the New York State Police notified Wells College of the arrest of David Hewitt, Aurora, NY, who has been charged with Aggravated Sexual Abuse and Use of a Child in a Sexual Performance, both felony charges. The incident currently under investigation did not take place on campus and no Wells College students were involved in the incident.

At Wells College, we consider the safety of our community to be of the utmost importance. The College has decided to immediately terminate Mr. Hewitt from his position as Campus Security Sergeant. We are fully cooperating with the State Police regarding their investigation. The community is encouraged to contact State Police Investigators at 315-255-2767 regarding their investigation.

Above all, we want to express our heartfelt sympathy and concern for the victim and their family at this time.

Additional counseling and support services are being made available to staff, faculty and students.
