Due to a forecast of steady rain, this Saturday’s Commencement ceremony at Wells College has been moved indoors, to the Schwartz Athletic Center. The ceremony will begin at the scheduled time of 10:00 a.m., and guests will be allowed inside the Schwartz Center starting at 9:00 a.m.
This was not a decision that was made lightly, but the safety and well-being of our students, families and guests is of the utmost importance. If the weather clears up, we will not be able to move the ceremony back outside, due to the complex logistics involved with preparing for a large-scale event.
As guests arrive on campus, our parking attendants will direct them toward the closest available lot. Guests will enter campus from Route 90 via the North Entrance.
Shuttle vans and golf carts will be available to transport guests from the lots to and Schwartz Center, as well as from the post-Commencement reception back to their vehicles.
We strongly recommend that guests arrive by 8:00 a.m., and encourage the use of carpooling and alternative forms of transportation. Follow this link to view driving directions and a map of campus.
There are no tickets required for the indoor ceremony, and there is no limit on the number of guests that graduates may have in the Schwartz Athletic Center.
Guests with accessibility needs may be dropped off on the access road outside the Schwartz Center; an attendant will then direct the vehicle’s driver to the nearest parking location.
The Schwartz Athletic Center is fully accessible through the front entrance. Accessible seating, including areas for wheelchairs, may be found along the front row of bleachers.
We will send an update to campus on Friday regarding the status of the Saturday morning carriage rides.
Flowers for graduates may be purchased on site. Cash, personal checks, and credit cards are accepted. If you would like to purchase other Wells gifts for your student, the Campus Store in Zabriskie Hall will be open on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
A live feed of Commencement will be streamed on our Commencement website, as well as on the College’s YouTube channel, starting at 10:00 a.m. Saturday. An archived version will be available within a few days following the ceremony.
