Wells was pleased to hold a ribbon cutting ceremony for the newly-renovated Schwartz Athletic Center gymnasium. The project includes a new wall-to-wall wooden floor, permanent bleacher seating in the Frances Tarlton Farenthold Athletic Wing and further upgrades to lighting and improved restrooms surrounding the facility. These improvements create a more cohesive and welcoming environment for our students, fans, families and prospective student-athletes.
We would like to recognize the many people who contributed to the development and implementation of these improvements, including Don McJunkin of the J.M. McDonald Foundation, George and Priscilla Slocum, Bill Ryan of Cayuga Lake National Bank, Steve Moolin and Pete Sorber of Beardsley Architects + Engineers, Dr. Thomas de Witt, President Jonathan Gibralter and Provost and Dean of the College Cindy Speaker, as well as the Wells College Board of Trustees, Institutional Advancement Team, the Buildings and Grounds Team, and the Athletics Department Staff.
The new basketball floor was officially opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony preceding a late-November women's basketball game—the second of the season—against D'Youville College. The Wells women's team came away with a 77-64 win. At the ceremony, President Gibralter and Dean Speaker acknowledged and thanked contributors and stressed the importance of the project to students and the health and spirit of the College.
