It's on Us at Wells College

This week, November 17 - 21, Wells joins together to support the nation-wide "It's On Us" campaign. "It's on Us" is an effort developed and executed by the federal government, in association with NotAlone.gov and the White House Task Force to Protect Students from Sexual Assault, to engage college campuses and students across the country to stop sexual assault, domestic violence and sexual misconduct as a whole. Bystander intervention and community efforts can put an end to sexual assault and intimate partner violence.

We at Wells College will be coordinating campus programming this week aimed towards building community, raising awareness and strengthening collaborative efforts between students and staff. The outline for the week is as follows:

  • Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, Student Life will be tabling in the Dining Hall during lunch to have students, faculty and staff sign the It's On Us Pledge. Participants will also fill out whiteboard signs describing their own reasons for signing the pledge.
  • Student Life staff are creating paper chains decorated by the community to hang in the Student Activities hallway as a symbolic representation of community and the bonds that hold us together. The pictures will be used for a public service announcement video that will go live on Friday morning.
  • A limited number of It's On Us Wells College shirts will be available to students.
  • On Monday night, the Student Life staff is hosting a fireside chat to discuss any questions students may have regarding bystander intervention, dating or intimate partner violence, and sexual assault. The chat will take place at the fireplace on the Ryerson Commons with a hot chocolate bar for participants.

If you have any questions or ideas for how else to promote this week, contact Hailey Uribe, Assistant Director of Student Activities and Coordinator of Residential Programming, at 315-364-3463 or email huribe@wells.edu

Our mission is for every student to think critically, reason wisely and act humanely as they cultivate meaningful lives. On our beautiful lakeside campus, students gain the knowledge, skills and experience to create their own unique path.
