The Susan Wray Sullivan '51 and Pike H. Sullivan Center for Business and Entrepreneurship at Wells is pleased to present the Be Your Own Boss! student business idea competition. The competition is open to all current Wells College students. Participants will present their ideas on Thursday, March 6, for awards totaling $5,000.

Business ideas can be for a product or service and can be a for-profit(most businesses) or nonprofit business (e.g., charities, most education institutes, most healthcare organizations, etc.). There will be a special prize for the top social impact business (e.g., water.org, kiva.org, toms.com, WarbyParker.com, etc.). There is no entry fee; however all individuals or teams must register to compete.

Mentoring will be available during the month of February, at your request, and on Saturday, March 1 and Tuesday, March 4. In addition, weekly information sessions and mentoring meetings will be scheduled each week to answer questions and discuss how to present your idea. Full rules and guidelines can be found here.

Participants will present their business idea to a panel of judges. This is not a business plan competition, which is considerably more detailed than a business idea competition, but business ideas should be well developed. Students will need to prepare their presentation and present it clearly and concisely. Helpful guidelines for preparation and presentation can be found here.

Registration is due by Thursday, February 20. Contact Kevin Miles, Director of the Sullivan Center for Business and Entrepreneurship, at kmiles@wells.edu for more information. This is the 4th annual business idea competition hosted by the Sullivan Center.
