Message from October 29 at 9:00 am:

Wells College staff has been closely monitoring Hurricane Sandy and its potential for effects in our area. The Emergency Preparedness Team met this morning, and plans are in place if we need to address any concerns. Should we lose power, students are asked to follow the instructions of the Residence Life staff and watch for postings in their halls for updates. The Dining Hall will be fully operational throughout the duration of the storm. College staff will be on campus 24 hours a day to assist students and respond quickly should there be any immediate needs.

As the College prepares for the possibility of severe weather in our area caused by Hurricane Sandy, the Office of Campus Safety has shared the following with students, faculty and staff as a reminder to take a few simple steps to ensure that individuals are prepared as well:

  • Make sure your cell phone, laptop, or other electronics devices you may rely on are fully charged. There is a possibility of power outages caused by wind damage. We have generators that will provide emergency power for lighting and other critical services. You may not be able to charge electronic device.
  • Make sure your vehicle gas tank is full in the event there is a prolonged power outage.
  • If we do get high winds, please be aware of where you are walking on campus and be alert for the potential of falling tree limbs.
  • If you find water leaking into any buildings on campus, please call Buildings and Grounds (315-364-3203) or Campus Safety (315-364-3229) as quickly as possible.

This is an excellent time to remind everyone about our emergency notification system, "Wells Express Alert." This system is a text and e-mail based notification system that Wells College uses to send out notifications about serve weather and other emergency-related issues affecting the community. To sign up for the Express Alert system, you will need to log onto the Globe, and go to the "Campus Safety" page. The information on the system is on the upper right corner of the page. Signing up is free to all Wells College community members, and you may also sign up your parents or guardians as well. The Express Alert system is only used for emergency notification, no SPAM or other messages are sent through this system.

We will update this notice as more information becomes available.

Our mission is for every student to think critically, reason wisely and act humanely as they cultivate meaningful lives. On our beautiful lakeside campus, students gain the knowledge, skills and experience to create their own unique path.
