Karey T. Pine Named Associate VP for Academic and Student Affairs and Dean of Students

Wells College is proud to announce the arrival of Dr. Karey T. Pine as our new Associate Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs and Dean of Students. Pine brings with her 35 years of experience in higher education.
August 25, 2022

Her storied academic life and career have led her to a variety of prestigious institutions around upstate New York: Hobart and William Smith Colleges, Rochester Institute of Technology, the National Technical Institute for the Deaf at RIT, the College at Brockport, and most recently, Cazenovia College, where she served as vice president for student affairs for four years.

She brings a deep understanding of and connection to the region to her new role. Her academic background, administrative experiences, and areas of focus make her a strong candidate to support growth, diversity, and first-generation students at Wells. As the associate vice president, Pine will assume responsibilities as the college's chief student affairs leader overseeing all aspects of campus and student life, including Title IX, and will also serve as part of the college's leadership team.

Pine expressed her enthusiasm for joining the administration at Wells: "It was clear from the minute I stepped onto the campus that Wells College is a unique place that is nurtured by a special community of students, faculty, staff members, administrators, and alumnae and alumni. I am excited to join this community, to listen and learn more, to honor traditions, and to create and support experiences that celebrate the capacity of all Wells students to forge meaningful paths in college and lives of consequence upon their graduation."

Wells' leaders believe that Pine is an excellent fit for the role and will complement the current team. Susan Henking, the vice president of academic and student affairs at Wells, stated, "I'm excited to have Karey join our team to help each of our students make Wells their own. I can't wait to work together." President of Wells Jonathan Gilbralter added, "I feel incredibly fortunate to have Karey Pine joining us at Wells. She is a consummate professional who will bring her many years of service to students to our community."

Pine's academic background includes a Doctorate of Education in Executive Leadership from St. John Fisher University in 2013. She was also the recipient of the 2013 Outstanding Scholarship Award from her program faculty. In 1993, she earned a master of science with a focus in career and human resource development from Rochester Institute of Technology. Among other specialized skills, she retains a conversational fluency in American Sign Language.
In her free time, Pine remains committed to supporting communities beyond the colleges she serves. Currently, she is a member of the Bishop Kearney High School Board of Trustees, a supporter of the Safe Haven Holocaust Refugee Museum, and is a part of the alumni network of the Leadership Rochester program. In addition to her volunteer activities, Pine is committed to personal health and wellness and enjoys plant-based cooking, running, and mindfulness activities. She also enjoys a love of live campus and community theatre and is an occasional performer.
