The String Room Gallery of Wells College is pleased to announce the opening of “I tilted over until it becomes horizon,” a five-person exhibition organized and curated by the artists themselves.
All are welcome to the gallery for a public reception on Thursday, March 31, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., and light refreshments will be served. The exhibition will remain on view until Tuesday, April 26. Gallery hours are Monday through Saturday, 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Please note that all individuals are required to wear masks indoors on the College’s campus.
Featuring the work of Ohan Breiding, Abigail Raphael Collins, dean erdmann, EJ Hill and Joshua AM Ross, “I titled over until it becomes horizon” expands notions of queer kinship through shapeshifting and time travel. In the words of the artists, “we morph as we encounter elements of water, sound, heat and gravity, forging intimacies with each other as we take on new forms.” Together, the artists create new shared landscapes, both internal and external.
Ohan Breiding works in photography, video, drawing and varying forms of collaboration to depict the importance of queer kinship and ecological care via active listening, historical events, and the landscape as witness. Abigail Raphael Collins is an interdisciplinary artist using experimental documentary and video installation to consider relationships between intergenerational transmission and sound through a queer feminist lens. dean erdmann is an interdisciplinary artist working in moving and still images, sculpture and installation. Their work considers the politics of place, class and the body, to think through intersections of the personal and the geopolitical. EJ Hill works in durational performance, installation, painting, and collage and lives in the Manchester Square neighborhood of South Los Angeles. Joshua AM Ross’s research-based practice is an entrenched phenomenological approach that investigates institutional, bodily, and spatial structures that organize and influence perception.
About the String Room Gallery
The String Room Gallery is a center for the exhibition of contemporary art in the Finger Lakes region of New York state. Located on the Wells College campus in the southwest corner of the first floor of Main Building, the gallery is free and open to the public.
