A Look Inside the Biological Sciences: Health Sciences Major at Wells

The Health Sciences Major program offers innovative and creative possibilities for undergraduates who wish to pursue a specialized study of healthcare. We help you get on track early. For example, our Introduction to Health Sciences course provides insights into diverse areas of healthcare study, enabling you to experience a range of healthcare fields to find your passion. You’ll hear from guest speakers from different medical fields and visit nearby hospitals and medical centers. In the process, you’ll learn a lot about career options in the health sciences and how health professionals in different fields work together.

As a health sciences major, you’ll find a variety of hands-on learning and research opportunities to enrich your undergraduate experience. You’ll also have the resources and support you need to design a successful bachelor’s degree program for your needs. Because we are a small, private liberal arts college, you’ll get to know and work closely with your professors and your peers. You’ll also have access to an expert advising group, made up of top faculty from diverse academic backgrounds, who will help you refine your degree plan and choose a selection of courses and independent study projects that will further your career goals.

Beyond the Classroom: Experiential Learning in the Health Sciences Major

Like all of the bachelor’s degree programs at Wells College, the Health Sciences Major provides a variety of undergraduate research, internship, and other hands-on opportunities to gain real-world career experience in the healthcare field and build your professional network.

Partnering with the Central New York Area Health Education Council (AHEC), we are the first school in the state to take part in the Rural Health Immersion Program, which provides important medical services to underserved rural communities. This program offers select students the opportunity to travel to a hospital facility and interview, shadow, and interact with health professionals and observe how the hospital community interacts with local residents.

Whatever area of health professions or the medical field you're interested in, Wells' liberal arts principals will help you graduate prepared, with a deep knowledge of sciences and social conditions important to your career.
