Mona Pohen

Lecturer in German
"For me, the German language is inexhaustible. With every class I teach and every text I read, I – a native speaker – find new and exciting aspects. Language is life. With my teaching, I try to enable students to express themselves from day one in a welcoming learning environment. Students are invited to explore the German language, culture, and history as actively as possible."
Cleveland 100

Professor Pohen's special interest lies with German 20th century culture: literature, film, and history. In teaching, she employs a wide array of methods and strategies that activate and enable her students to become confident speakers and curious researchers.

Her research is concerned with narratological aspects of the magical realist novel, German novels about the divided and unified Germany, novels and children's books in translation, and the narratology of German film.
