Jeanne Goddard has studied, taught, and choreographed in the language of contemporary dance since 1973; her teachers have included Percival Borde, Susannah Newman, and June Finch. Jeanne has performed with Bill T. Jones & Arnie Zane, June Finch/Danceworks, Jill Becker and Dancers, Lois Welk, Saga Dance Company, and others. Jeanne's choreography has been commissioned by ballet, modern dance, and opera companies and chamber ensembles, and by public television. She has taught dance technique and repertory in France and Kyrgyzstan, and also at SUNY Buffalo, SUC Buffalo, Niagara University, and SUC Brockport. Jeanne has co-founded three regional dance companies, and currently co-directs the CRS Barn Studio on an organic vegetable farm in Ithaca, where she produces multidisciplinary outdoor performance events with partner Steven Stull, including the annual choreographers' showcase, "Moving Landscapes." In recent years Jeanne has held the Robert D. and Henrietta T. Campbell named professorship at Wells College, where she has run the dance program since 1987. Her research interests include somatics, movement analysis, improvisational performance, and dance history and criticism.

Professor Goddard's teaching focuses on the capabilities and interests of the individual student. In technique and performance, she encourages students to explore new territories and challenge themselves within a supportive and respectful classroom environment. Every course includes an element of career preparation, emphasizing adaptability, professionalism, and entrepreneurship. She builds her concert pieces on the students with attention to creative process and expressivity.

Professional Choreography and Performance

Professor Goddard maintains an active career in performance and choreography, collaborating regularly with colleagues from Ithaca College, Hobart & William Smith Colleges, and Cornell University, as well as artists from the community.

Summer 2014

For Cornell University Summer Session Events: Produced "A Midsummer Night's Dance." Choreography "Voyage II," for 8 dancers, with live music by Peter Chwazik, Richard Montgomery, Steven Stull, John White; choreography and performance "Sea Songs," solo, with Richard Montgomery and Steven Stull; performance "Service with a Smile" in collaboration with Steven Stull.

At CRS Barn Studio, Ithaca, NY: Produced "Moving Landscapes, an evening of dance and music." Choreography "Voyage III," for 7 dancers, with pianist John White; choreography and performance "Dog Stories," solo, text and movement.

Performed improvisational solo with pianist John White at Ithaca College Summer Piano Institute.

Winter 2014

Choreographed Martinu's "The Kitchen Review" ("La revue de cuisine"). Commissioned by and performed with the ensemble Music's Recreation at the Community School of Music and Arts, Ithaca, NY.
