In support of Strategic Plan Objective #3: Embody a culture of belonging that empowers all to thrive

Julie Willams, Psy.D., ABPP and Steven Kniffley PsyD, MPA, ABPP, HSP will facilitate the 2nd faculty and staff development workshop, Centering the Dialogue. This interactive workshop will support listening across differences. Break out groups will provide opportunity for small group dialogue to engage a hands on process of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Workshop Goals:

· Understand Intent versus Impact
· Discussion/Debate/Dialogue
· Honor each other’s narratives
· Practice intentional and courageous difficult dialogues

About the Presenters

Steven D. Kniffley Jr., PsyD, HSP, MPA, ABPP is the Associate Director for the Center for Behavioral Health and an Assistant Professor in Spalding University’s School of Professional Psychology. He currently teaches Multicultural Psychology and Intro to Psychotherapy. Dr. Kniffley is also a Board Certified Clinical Psychologist. Dr. Kniffley’s area of expertise is research and clinical work with Black males. Specifically, his work focuses on understanding and developing culturally appropriate interventions for Black male psychopathology as well as barriers to academic success for this population. Dr. Kniffley has written numerous books, book chapters, and articles on Black male mental health, Black males and the criminal justice system, and academic achievement.

Julie Willams, Psy.D., ABPP, is Professor of Clinical Psychology at Wright State University where she specializes in disability issues, rehabilitation psychology, health psychology, neuropsychology, neuropsychological assessment, and outcome measurement in rehabilitation. Dr. Williams earned her bachelor’s degree in rehabilitation from Wright State, her master’s in rehabilitation counseling from The Ohio State University, and her Psy.D. in clinical psychology from Wright State. She is a board-certified rehabilitation psychologist by the American Psychological Association. Prior to receiving her doctorate degree, Williams worked for the State of Ohio Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation for nine years. Following her doctoral work, she did her internship and postdoctoral work in neuroscience rehabilitation at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. Dr. Williams has won national honors for her disabilities justice work.

This workshop, which is open only to current Wells College faculty and staff, is co-sponsored by the Office of the Dean of Students and the Departments of Psychology and Women’s, Transgender, and Queer Studies, and First Nations and Indigenous Studies.
