Hungry students packed the Wells College Golf Course Clubhouse and snacked on free chicken tenders, wings, French fries, and mozzarella sticks during the Clubhouse Express Gift Card Launch Party last night.
According to Dean of Students Karey Pine, one Clubhouse Express gift card was printed for each student — a total of about 350 cards. Distribution of the cards began in December. By showing their student IDs, every student is eligible to receive their gift card from Residence Life staff in the Sommer Center. The card is pre-loaded with $30 redeemable for meals and beverages at the Clubhouse.
Clubhouse Owner Kevin Fitzgerald said students can reload the card with more money at the bar if they choose, but it is not connected to a student’s Express Cash card and is separate from other existing student meal plans.
Pine said the restaurant not only provides another alternative to dining options on campus but also creates a new environment for students to interact with the local community, who often frequent the location while on the Wells College Golf Course.
“The Clubhouse is a small setting, so when you go there, people do get to know one another,” Pine said. “People are very friendly. I've always experienced that myself. I think this will be another way for students to get to know their village, which is important in a place like Aurora and at Wells.”
The Clubhouse is a causal sports bar that serves fried foods and appetizers, burgers, sandwiches, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. The winter hours for the Clubhouse are:
- 12 to 4 p.m.
- 7 to 10 p.m.
- Monday - Thursday
- 4 to 10 p.m.
