The Wells College Center for Sustainability and the Environment presents a Sustainability Perspective Series discussion with Ernie Olson, Professor of Anthropology and Religion at Wells College, at 12:20 p.m. Monday, October 5 in the Hostetter Lecture Room (209) of Stratton Hall.

Fed by snowmelt from the Rockies, the Missouri River, with the support of sister rivers such as the Milk and Yellowstone, is a vital green line meandering through the dry plains and badlands of Eastern Montana. However, the 21st century brings great challenges to the vitality of Missouri River ecosystem, and this presentation will offer some ways to ensure the future health of the river.

Professor Olson’s anthropological studies include the Pacific—particularly Tonga, Hawaii—and Native America. The specialized areas for his teaching and research include environmental justice, culture change, ritual studies, religion, and colonialism. Professor Olson believes that the focus on cultures from around the globe is what attracts students to anthropology.
