Film Screening: “Not My Life” with Trustee Renée Minarik

Wells College Trustee and NY State Justice Renée Minarik ’80 will host a free screening of the film Not My Life, a feature-length documentary depicting the cruel and dehumanizing practices of human trafficking and modern slavery on a global scale. Directed by Academy Award nominee Robert Bilheimer and narrated by Glenn Close, Not My Life features interviews with dozens of individuals in eight countries and five continents, and has been hailed by the international human rights community. A special presentation version of Not My Life has been prepared for the Wells screening that features the trailer for Heart of the Matter, Worldwide Documentaries film in progress about the exploitation, dehumanization, and enslavement of migrants and refugees by the multi-billion-dollar global human trafficking industry.
Challenging though it may be, Not My Life’s message is ultimately one of hope. Victims of slavery can be set free and go on to live happy and productive lives. Those who advocate for slavery victims are growing in numbers, and are increasingly effective. The film tells us, as the late Jonathan Mann said, “We can no longer flee, no longer hide, no longer separate ourselves.”
This screening is presented as part of the National Association of Women Judges – NY Chapter Conference. Since they will be viewing the film in Stratton Hall, Ms. Minarik is inviting members of the Wells community and interested Aurora residents to join the event.
