Looking Back, Moving Forward: Annual UMOJA Conference

The student organization UMOJA presents their second annual conference, titled “Looking Back, Moving Forward.” The conference will feature the following community discussions and presentations:
Thursday, March 31
Racism on Our Campus
6:30 p.m., Zabriskie 106
A discussion of our daily interactions and how race plays a factor.
Friday, April 1
Athletes and Education on a College Campus
1 p.m., Sommer Center, Smith Hall
A workshop on the culture of athletics relating to the student body.
Saturday, April 2
The LGBTPoC Panel
1 p.m., Sommer Center, Smith Hall
A representation panel to discuss how race, ethnicity, and sexuality intersect.
Sunday, April 3
The Culture of Sustainability
1 p.m., Sommer Center, Smith Hall
A look at how sustainability serves as a cultural marker in every life.
Each talk is organized by the students of UMOJA and features student speakers.
UMOJA’s mission is “to educate on, spread awareness of and celebrate the cultures of people of color with a focus on those of African descent. This is however, an inclusive environment and safe space for all marginalized groups to discuss and relate cross-cultural experiences in a positive atmosphere. [The members] seek to grow and learn as individuals and as a community.”
