Residence Life and Dining

Residence Life

As a small, residential college located in bucolic Upstate New York, Wells has some natural advantages due to its location. It is still critically important, however, for everyone living in campus housing to make responsible choices and act in the best interests of their roommates and others they come in contact with.

Within the residence halls, acceptable face coverings must be worn any time individuals come within six feet of another person who does not reside in the same room. Individuals should be prepared to don a face covering if another person unexpectedly comes within six feet. Physical distancing and face coverings are not required among roommates, as students sharing the same room are considered members of the same “household”; however, within the residence halls, face coverings should be worn at all other times.

Shared bathrooms and commons areas will be cleaned and disinfected on a daily basis. For shared bathrooms, wherever feasible the College will be installing physical barriers between showers, toilets and sinks; using paper towels instead of air dryers; and limiting storage of personal items.

Dining Services

The campus dining hall in Main Building will be open on its usual schedule for meals, seven days a week, throughout the semester. Capacity will be reduced, so seating will be limited. All students will receive a free “Eco-to-Go” container, and have the option of using that at any meal they wish to take with them. To help minimize contact, “self-service” is no longer an option; instead, dining staff will serve food on the plates (or Eco-to-Go containers) as each customer goes through the line, and also provide them with pre-rolled silverware. The dining hall will be closed between meals — for 30 minutes between breakfast and lunch, and 60 minutes between lunch and dinner — so that dining hall staff can perform additional cleaning and sanitization.

The Well, located in the Sommer Center, is offering its “Pizza 315” service Wednesday through Sunday, 3 to 9 p.m. each day. On-campus delivery and alcohol service have both been discontinued until further notice, and we strongly encourage everyone to call in orders ahead of time.

Menus, hours of operation, and further details may be found at the dining services website.
