*Filing for FAFSA can now start as early as October 1
**First-year candidates who submit their FAFSA to Wells College prior to December 1 will receive an automatic $1,000 FAFSA grant in their financial aid package

Thank you for your nominations! Certificates and award letters will be issued starting the week of May 8. If you do not receive anything by May 19, please call the Admissions Office at 315-364-3264.

Counselor Campus Visit
  • Get to know Wells in person!  We invite you to join us on campus for a personalized counselor visit.  We are glad to host school counselors at any time of the year. We will be happy to develop a unique itinerary for your trip and make arrangements for your stay here in Aurora, the gem of New York's Finger Lakes region.  Contact us to schedule your visit!
  • Of course, we also offer daily visits for students and their families. They can also sign up for one of our Open Houses or Priority Visit Days to mingle with current students and faculty. Dates and more details can be found on the Visit Wells page.

21st Century Leadership Award

Certificates will be issued starting the week of May 8.

The 21st Century Leadership Award is presented to high school juniors nominated by their guidance counselors for their spirit, integrity, intellectual, and leadership qualities. The award is a $40,000 scholarship ($10,000 per year) for four years of study at Wells College. A maximum of two (2) qualifying students can be nominated by counselors from their school. Qualified candidates must have:

  • a cumulative grade point average of 85%;
  • demonstrated leadership ability and/or potential through school and community activities

Please note that as an NCAA Division III college, athletic participation is not considered when selecting candidates for this award.

*Most 21st Century Leadership Award recipients are also eligible for other merit-based scholarships. The $10,000 scholarship for this award will be used to grant the maximum scholarship level allowed by the institution

 Scholarships at Wells

Institutional Scholarships (no nomination needed)

  • Henry Wells Scholarships are awarded to students who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement throughout high school. Recipients are selected based on stellar academic credentials, strong leadership skills, and overall excellence in the classroom. Henry Wells Scholars are our top students and, as such, are granted a guaranteed first-year internship during Wells’ January intersession, a $3,000 stipend for an internship in the student's sophomore, junior, or senior year and a $25,000 scholarship each year for four years of study at the College.
  • Presidential Scholarships are awarded to students who maintain academic excellence in high school and a strong record of service to their schools and communities. The Admissions Committee selects recipients based on information supplied in the application. Presidential Scholars are awarded $22,000 per year for four years of study at the College.
  • Dean’s Awards go to students with strong academic records and active participation in clubs and organizations within their schools and communities.  Recipients are awarded a $20,000 scholarship per year.
  • Wells College Alumni Scholarships are based on evidence of individual initiative, creativity, responsibility, cooperation, and leadership ability, as well as, potential as a future alumni leader.  The Wells College Alumni Association is committed to supporting students that have demonstrated leadership as evidenced by contributions to the enrichment of the individual's school or community through active involvement in co-curricular and/or community activities. The recipient(s) will be awarded a $15,000 scholarship each year for four years of study.
  • Janet Taylor Reiche ’52 Legacy Scholarship: Awarded to the children and grandchildren of Wells College alumnae/i. These scholarships are valued at $2,500 per year for four years of study and are named in honor of Wells College alumna Janet Taylor Reiche ’52, who served as the first female chair of the Wells College Board of Trustees.
  • FAFSA Grant: For first-year students enrolled for the first time at Wells College, this grant is valued at $1,000 and is offered to students who filed the FAFSA by December 1st.
  • Wells College Transfer Scholarships are awarded to students who have demonstrated academic excellence in their college coursework. Students must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better to qualify. Recipients are selected by the Admissions Committee and awarded $15,000 per year.  Phi Theta Kappa students (transfer students who are members of this two-year college honor society) will automatically receive a bonus scholarship of $2,000. Proof of PTK membership must be submitted with admissions application.
  • International students with strong academic profiles may be eligible for annual scholarships ranging from $5,000 to $15,000.
