First-Year Student Information

Apply as a First-Year Student

Wells College is now accepting applications for Spring 2021 and Fall 2021. Applying to Wells College is fast and simple! For most students, we'll provide a decision within two weeks. Students may submit the free Wells application or choose the Common App by clicking the appropriate link below. Step 2: Provide Required Materials
  • Official high school transcripts and school report
  • International students only: English proficiency test scores. See here for more details.
  • Optional:  submit one recommendation from a high school teacher in an academic subject and/or a personal essay

    Recommended course of study:
    Students applying for first-year admission should present a secondary school program with a minimum of four academic subjects each year, including:
      • four years of English
      • three or more years of mathematic
      • three or more years of social science
      • two or more years of laboratory science
      • one or more years of a foreign language

Highly Recommended: Campus Visit
At Wells, it all starts with your campus visit. We'll tailor a visit experience just for you – your interests, your questions, your Wells. Chat with an admissions counselor, let a current Wellsian show you around campus, sit in on a class, meet with a professor in the major(s) of your interest, attend an event, meet a coach in one of our NCAA Division III Sports. Enjoy lunch in our dining hall, a picnic on the dock of our boathouse on Cayuga Lake, or a meal in the Village of Aurora. Schedule your visit now – we'd love to show you around!

Optional Materials
  • One teacher recommendation from a secondary school teacher in an academic subject
  • Essay or Other Expression: To help us better understand your achievements and potential, we welcome any additional material that showcases your unique personality and talents. These can be a personal essay or writing sample, a résumé, your creative portfolio, or a video recording of a musical, theatrical, athletic or other performance. You decide!
Step 3: Financial Aid

To help us provide you with the most complete financial aid award package, you must submit a completed Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). If you have questions about scholarships, student loans, or how to file the FAFSA, our Office of Financial Aid is always happy to help!
