Housing and Meals
You will be living and studying within walking distance of your classes and just a few blocks away from the Ponte Vecchio, the Uffizi Gallery, the Galileo Museum, Medici Chapel, San Lorenzo Market, and some of Europe's most renowned outdoor spaces. First-year students will stay in a central apartment complex with oversight by a full-time Wells College residence life staff member who is on call 24/7 in case of emergency. All apartments are fully furnished and include:
- Shared bedroom (supplemental charge for single room)
- Fully stocked kitchen with necessary pots, pans, dishware, and utensils
- Linens, towels, pillows, blanket, and bedspread
- WiFi
Students are provided with two meals per day (lunch and dinner) and will sign in at centrally located meal “hubs” (small university cafeterias and/or local restaurants with a fixed, rotating menu) where they can select from a variety of first and second course dishes along with a side dish/fruit option + bread item. There are many different restaurants nearby should you wish to dine out at your own expense. Student apartments are also equipped with full kitchens.
International Health Insurance
Wells College has secured comprehensive international travel insurance for all study abroad participants through AXA. Students approved to study off-campus in a country other than their home country will be covered under this plan and will receive details of coverage via email directly from the carrier shortly before their program start date. Details of the insurance plan and travel services.
Flights
Round-trip airfare from the New York City area to Florence is included in your program fee. During the summer, students will receive important information regarding group flight arrangements. Do not proceed with making travel plans until you are instructed to do so by Wells College staff. Although Wells College purchases your flight, you will still need to provide information to our travel agency, Advantage Travel. Flights into New York from other cities (for orientation week) are at additional cost and can be arranged through our travel agency for additional convenience.
Important! ONE group airport shuttle from Syracuse (SYR) airports to the Wells College campus in Aurora, N.Y.—a 45-minute drive from the airport—will be provided free of charge on U.S. orientation arrival day (see the "Orientation and Calendar" page for date). If you would like transportation on the Wells College group shuttle, ensure your flight arrives before the pick-up time indicated. We can also provide students/parents with private airport transfer options for an additional fee.
After U.S. orientation, students will be provided with a seamless group transfer from Aurora, N.Y. to the airport in New York, and then on to Florence with Wells staff. Once students arrive in Italy, Florence-based staff coordinate transportation and logistics from the Florence airport to student apartments.
