Resolution:
Anne J. Russ


President Lisa Marsh Ryerson and Dean Ellen W. Hall have accepted the following eloquent resolution from the Division of the Social Sciences.

WHEREAS: Since 1981 Anne J. Russ, Professor of Sociology and Education and Director of Secondary Education, has served Wells College through her excellent teaching, passionate scholarship, devoted community activism, and exemplary academic advising, indeed, Professor Russ was the first faculty member to receive the Excellence in Academic Advising Award;

WHEREAS: Professor Russ has been a constant supporter and promoter of the liberal arts educational philosophy and its interdisciplinary dimensions;

WHEREAS: Professor Russ has been a tireless Chair and member of the Social Sciences Division;

WHEREAS: It is impossible to imagine a Wells College without her firm voice and shoot-from-the-hip perspective which always reveals a keen awareness of the political as personal as well as the personal as political;

WHEREAS: Professor Russ's unwavering dedication to the field of education as a discipline and as a practice has led to the development and success of the Educational Studies minors and the Secondary Education program;

THEREFORE: The Social Sciences Faculty resolve unanimously to recommend that Professor Russ be awarded the status of Professor Emerita of Sociology and Education.

BE IT RESOLVED: That the Board of Trustees confer upon Professor Anne J. Russ the title of Professor of Sociology and Education, Emerita, effective upon the date of her retirement.
