of Women’s History Month, Wells College Dean of Students Office is pleased
to present, “Go Girl! How to Succeed in School, Sports and Life,”
a dynamic motivational talk by the nation’s first nationally syndicated
women’s sports columnist, Mariah Burton Nelson, pioneering professional
athlete, author and speaker.
Nelson, the author of four books, including the acclaimed, The Stronger Women Get, The More Men Love Football, has been inducted into the National Women’s Sports Hall of Fame and has appeared on Dateline, Crossfire, Today, Good Morning America, and Larry King Live. | The Wells College Consort will play a beautiful new medieval bowed string instrument, designed by Derwood Crocker. Replicated from a 13th century manuscript design, its creation was paid for by Wells Consort Alumnae early instrument fund members, Gayle Rawson, ’88; Heather Mathewson, ’88; Sharon Munger, ’87, and Jennifer Hagberg ’88, and others. Called a medieval fiddle, the instrument is made of cherry tailpiece, spruce face and mahogany. |

| Nell and her client will discuss a case that Nell litigated and settled involving harassment over a period of time in a male-dominated workplace (manufacturing). They will talk about the forms of harassment, why they sued, and how they "won." Nell was an economics major at Wells with a JD from University at Buffalo Law School. She has a law practice in Buffalo. |

Preceding the performance, a sampling of foods from Lating American countries will be served. Voluntary donations for the food will go to help the victims of the recent earthquakes in El Salvador. Dykstra's performance is sponsored by the Wells College Music Department and the food is sponsored by the Latin American students, students of Spanish, and the Spanish Club. | Henry's VIII, a student-organized double quartet vocal group formed in the early 1940s, is named after Wells College founder, Henry Wells. Henry's VIII performs on campus and at other area spots. The group has toured major cities along the East Coast, and has several albums to its credit. The CD titled "Will Sing For Food" will be sold at the concert. Kyrgyz
pianist Daniyar Mukhtarov makes his United States debut at Wells College
in an exclusive engagement this evening. The concert will feature the US
premiere of the "Suite for Piano" by contemporary Kyrgyz composer, Murat
Begaliev. Piano works by Tschaikovsky, Rachmaninov, Chopin, Scarlatti and
Mozart complete the program. The concert is free and open to the public.
Mr. Mukhtarov's visit is sponsored by the Arts and Performance Department
at Wells College.
Daniyar Mukhtarov comes from a family of musicians. His father, the late Khusein Mukhtarov, was a Soviet National Artist who sang with the Bolshoi and Kirov Theatre. His mother , dramatic soprano Esen Moldokulova, is currently the director of the Kyrgyz State opera. Daniyar Mukhtarov has performed as a pianist and conductor all over the world, Russia, Kazahkstan, Germany, Austria, Italy, Spain, France, Poland and others. A graduate of the Moscow State Conservatory, he was first prize winner of the Soviet National Competition of USSR Composers and has won recognition in Kyrgyz National Musical Competition and The International Casagrande Piano Competition in Terni, Italy.
