Program location: Florence, Italy

Program description: Students enroll at the Italian International Institute Lorenzo de’ Medici, located in the heart of Florence. Instruction is in English. Courses are available in studio art, culinary art, art history, history, politics, economics, business, psychology, sociology, and archaeology, as well as Italian language courses at all levels. Students will live in apartments or homestays within a short walk of classes and surrounded by all the wonderful art and architecture that Florence has to offer.

Galen University

Program location: San Ignacio, Belize

Galen University has particular strengths in archaeology, anthropology, and sustainable development, but offers a wide range of courses including business and tourism. A semester in Belize offers students the opportunity to live in a nation rich in cultural diversity in a semi-tropical and coastal environment. Belize is best known as a tourist destination, but your studies will give you a deeper understandings of life in "a Central American country with a Caribbean beat." You'll meet Belizean Creole, Garifuna, and Maya scholars and students while living and studying in Belize.

IES Abroad in Santiago

Program location: Santiago, Chile

The IES Abroad Santiago Program allows students to fully immerse themselves in the daily life and culture of Chile while studying the Spanish language and Latin America. Courses are taught in Spanish by distinguished professors from IES Abroad partner universities. Wherever possible, courses take advantage of Santiago’s many historical, artistic, and cultural sites, and several courses also include a hands-on, practical component. Students can enroll in courses at local universities, including the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and the Universidad de Chile, where they will experience the Chilean educational system firsthand and enjoy access to local student activities.

IN CHINA
  

IES Abroad – Beijing: Beijing: Contemporary China & Chinese Language

Program location: Beijing, China

Based on the Beijing Foreign Studies University campus, one of Beijing’s premier academic universities, this program will provide intensive language instruction. This program will benefit students who want to rapidly expand their knowledge of written and spoken Chinese, and their knowledge about China in general. You will have an assortment of language instruction ranging from grammar classes, small drill sessions, and private tutorials. To facilitate language improvement and cultural understanding, students have the option of living in a homestay or in a dorm with a Chinese roommate.  Beijing will be your classroom: you will also practice your language skills and witness what you learn in the classroom first-hand by going to local markets and bargaining with vendors for the best deals or simply exploring this magnificent city. In addition to the Chinese language coursework you can choose to complete your schedule with area studies courses related to Asian Studies, Literature, International Relations, and Economics, taught in English by scholars from leading academic institutions in China, the United States, and other countries.

IN COSTA RICA
  

Costa Rica Program

Program location: San José, Costa Rica

Open to all majors, this program will be of particular interest to students in the Wells Business Program. A defining feature of this program is a required internship for all students. Students will enroll in two to three university topics courses in English, and two Spanish courses, all at the Universidad Latinoamericana de Ciencia y Tecnología in San José. Course offerings in English include business, education, environmental studies, Latin American studies, law, and history. All students will be placed in an unpaid 3-credit hour internship at a Costa Rica-based company, NGO, or other organization for the duration of the semester. 

GPA: 2.8

Prerequisites: Coursework in Spanish is encouraged but not required (knowledge of Spanish, if any, may be one factor in internship placement).

Freie Universität Berlin FU-BEST Program

Program location: Berlin, Germany

Located in the heart of Berlin, this program combines courses offered in English on German/European politics, history, sociology, philosophy, film, business, environmental studies, economics, music, and art history with semi-intensive study of German. Courses take advantage of sites and museums in Berlin with local field trips and cultural activities, along with a weeklong excursion in Germany and other countries in Central or Eastern Europe. Local internships are available to qualified students after the spring semester. Program uses the U.S. semester schedule. Students live in homestays or single-occupancy, furnished studio apartments.

GPA: 3.0

Prerequisite: Second-semester sophomore class standing. While not required, at least one semester of college-level German is recommended.

University College Cork (fall semester only) 

Program location: Cork, Ireland

University College Cork (UCC) offers a unique and enriching study abroad experience. A comprehensive range of course offerings in the arts, humanities, social sciences, and sciences is available to students. The program is of particular interest to students majoring in the biological, chemical, physical, environmental, mathematical, or computer sciences. An Early Start Program introduces students to living and studying in Ireland. UCC is located in the picturesque city of Cork, Ireland’s second largest city, situated in the south of the country. Cork offers students all the advantages of a bustling, vibrant and cosmopolitan area, while maintaining a safe and secure atmosphere for the student traveler.

J. F. Oberlin University (also known as Obirin University) (spring semester only) 

Program location: Tokyo, Japan

J.F. Oberlin offers semi-intensive Japanese as well as subject courses in English and Japanese depending on the participant’s proficiency in Japanese. The program, known as Reconnaissance Japan, allows students to focus on Japanese language as well as the culture, politics, economics, and business of Japan and East Asia.

IES Abroad in Granada

Program location: Granada, Spain

The IES Abroad in Granada curriculum takes full advantage of Andalusia and all southern Spain has to offer. The program offers two unique program options that are designed to improve Spanish proficiency: the Intermediate Spanish Program and the Advanced Spanish Program. Students placed in the Intermediate Program take IES Abroad courses in both English and Spanish. The Advanced Program courses are conducted entirely in Spanish, including study at the Universidad de Granada. Both options introduce students to Spain’s Moorish heritage and Jewish past, and its continuing links to North Africa through Islamic and Contemporary North African Studies. Advanced students can also experience Arabic language courses of all levels, at the Universidad de Granada.

Albany Internship Experience 

Program location: Albany, NY

The Albany Internship Experience is a full-semester residential program in Albany, NY, offered through Marist College. The AIE program consists of an internship (9 credits), a State Politics and Policy seminar course (3 credits), and an online course (3 credits). Students will work at their internship placement three to four days a week. Internship placements are tailored to student interest and include advocacy groups, lobbying firms, nonprofit organizations, and state agency offices working in diverse policy areas including economic policy, education policy, environmental policy, social policy, and more. Students will benefit from networking opportunities, guest speaker presentations, and the ability to explore all that New York’s capital region has to offer. The AIE program is open to all majors.

Salt Institute for Documentary Studies

Program location: Portland, Maine

The Salt Institute for Documentary Studies provides a semester of hands-on learning of documentary radio, writing, or photography. Salt is located in the heart of the art district in Portland, Maine. By documenting Maine people, culture, and landscape, students become writers of nonfiction- literate, proficient, ethical storytellers in the written word, sound, and images. Through fieldwork, collaborative critiques, and guided discussion of relevant work, students learn how to ethically research and gain access to a story, collect information, edit their work, and return to the field to refine the process. Borrowing from a variety of disciplines outside of journalism to tell stories- art, sociology, anthropology, oral history- students produce a professional, intimate, humanistic body of work and leave Salt better equipped to work in their chosen field.
