12-5-11 - Continentals Stifle Express
AURORA, N.Y. – The Wells College women’s basketball team fell 52-23 to the Hamilton College Continentals Monday evening in Aurora. Madie Harlem (Oneonta, N.Y.) led the Continentals with a game high 21 points and four rebounds, while Claire Hunsinger (Moravia, N.Y.) finished with 14 points and eight rebounds. With the loss Wells falls to 1-5, while Hamilton improves to 3-4.
Six different players scored for the Express led by seven points and six rebounds from Allison Pine, while teammates Kelli Furney (Camden, N.Y.) and Jessilyn Artaho-Aki (Kappaa, Hawaii) each chipped in with five points.
Neither team was able to generate any type of consistent offense through the first ten minutes of play. Holding a slim 12-8 lead, the Continentals began to pull away, rattling off an 11-0 run, opening up a 16 point lead at the half.
The Continentals continued their offensive surge in the second half, extending their lead to as many as 29 points en route to the non-conference victory. Hamilton played tough on the defensive side of the ball, forcing 20 turnovers on 15 steals while committing just eight turnovers of their own.
The Express return to action Wednesday when they open NEAC conference play on the road against Cazenovia College at 8 p.m.in Cazenovia.
