Anniversary Celebration

On October 15, 1998, the Library will celebrate the 30th Anniversary of its dedication with Coffee and Cake at the library. The reception will take place at 10AM in the walk-through adjacent to the Circulation Area of the library. Stop by, have a piece of cake, and check out our innovations!

Ghost Stories Told by Wells Students

Read a collection of ghosts stories from the Archives. These stories are told by Wells students each year during the Halloween season.

MLA

The Library is pleased to announce that the MLA Bibilography will once again be available to our patrons. We have picked it up as a subscription database on FirstSearch. Patrons can find it either on the dedicated OCLC workstation, or access it from the Electronic Reading Room on the Library website. Because of the nature of our account with OCLC, FirstSearch is available only from the Library.

Additional Database Services with Expanded Access

Since last spring, the Library has added several new database services. We now have:

Expanded access allows you to reach these resources from anywhere on campus, and from dial-in if you have a Wells acount. You can now access them from your office, the computer labs or from home.

Automation Update

Collection Review

The collection review itself is now completed, and we are working on the wrap-up. We would like to thank all those faculty members who helped with the effort.

Database Preparation

We have updated the information on all our shelf list cards in preparation for converting that information to electronic format. Five summer student workers helped with this project.

Retrospective Conversion

We have sent our first shipment of cards to OCLC for Retrospective Conversion. This is the conversion of the information on our paper cards into an electronic format for use in our future OPAC. Work on those cards began September 24, and will continue with monthly shipments until the whole collection is converted by some time late next fall.

Inventory

Summer student workers were also involved in an inventory of some areas of the collection. Missing books lists are now being compiled and final checking of these missing items will be undertaken. We will inventory the rest of the collection next summer.
