Local Artist Displays "Compostmodernism" Work
L. Jamie Ormiston, local artist, graduate of Southern Cayuga Central Schools and the University of Maine, has an exhibit of his artwork on the lower level of Long Library. The exhibit will run from February 2nd to March 7th, 2010.

In the words of the artist, “All you see here is my hand work, with varying degrees of digitization. When asked a few days ago how I would describe my art I flippantly answered ‘compostmodernism’, but on reflection, this seemed comfortably apt. Baudelaire & O’Hara, Picasso & Giotto, the nearness of the remote, a nostalgia for a future all broken down into a rich loam. So I also welcome, if not embrace, the folkloric connotations of compost & allowing this whatever free play in my work.”

Please come by and “relish his wandering path”.

Equine Photography Exhibit, The Literary Horse: When Legends Come to Life, On Parade
Black Beauty lives at the end of Main Street and Pegasus takes wing from a pasture not far from Peachtown Elementary School in a new internationally touring equestrian photography exhibit. The exhibit pairs up to 100 photos of today’s horses and riders with quotations from the world’s great books. According to the artist, equine photographer Vanessa Wright, “From Achilles’ weeping chargers to Don Quixote’s Rocinante, the horses of myth and literature are alive and thriving in our neighborhoods!” Showcasing first-time riders through Special Olympic and Olympic champions, and equestrian disciplines ranging from carriage driving and show-jumping to jousting and vaulting (gymnastics on horseback), The Literary Horse will provide students with a real-life tour of equestrian classics.--from Press Release

The exhibit will be on display from October 5 – November 5, 2009 at the Long Library, Wells College. The exhibit is free and open to the public. An artists’ reception will be held on October 5th at 4:30pm. See http://www.theliteraryhorse.com/ for more information.

All are welcome to participate and can do so by being creative and designing a postcard of gratitude. Campus mail your postcard to Caitlin Titus or Emily Ambrose.
