Loans via FirstSearch

I. Searching
– Find Your Needed Citations
|

Tip: Begin all your searches
in FirstSearch, because it is the most comprehensive.
FirstSearch is a collection of numerous scholarly databases.
-
FirstSearch is available campus-wide.
-
Start with the Wells
College homepage --> Library Resources
--> Online Databases.
-
Click on the red hotlink for
FirstSearch.
-
Type a word or phrase in Search
for: _____________
and select a topic area
(Arts & Humanities, Education, etc.)
OR
-
Choose a FirstSearch database
(PsycFirst, AGRICOLA, ERIC, MLA, WorldCat, etc.)
-
For books, dissertations,
theses, & videos – choose WorldCat.
-
Search for citations on your
topic (Basic or Advanced search).
-
From the list of citations,
choose one -- by clicking on the underlined blue
title link.
-
Check the Online
Periodicals List or the Wells Catalog
to see if the Wells Library has the periodical or book.
-
If the Library does not have
the periodical or the book, place your interloan request electronically
using the FirstSearch
ILL link.
-
For all other interlibrary loan
requests, come to the Resource Sharing Office.

II. Placing
Your Order
|

Click the ILL
button, if it appears at the top of the main record.
-
Fill in the blanks of the form
with:
-
Your name, address, telephone
number, and email address.
-
Ignore the other blanks!
-
If there's a charge, we'll ask
you for further instructions.
-
There is no charge for most
requests.
-
Click the Submit
button to send the request.
-
DO SAVE your information to
avoid retyping it for every item.
-
The potential lenders and the
Resource Sharing office will receive your request immediately!
Tip: If you'd like to keep a
record of your request, send a copy of the citation to yourself by email.

Choose the Email button on the
FirstSearch citation screen and follow the instructions.

A paper copy of the directions
is available at the Circulation Desk, in the Online Room, or in the Resource
Sharing office.
Your
Responsibilities
-
Read the Copyright
Notice if you are ordering journal articles.
-
Return Interlibrary Loan books
promptly on or before the due date. Overdue books result in a
loss of your borrowing privileges.
-
Return a book immediately if
you are notified it has been recalled.
-
Return books to a librarian
or to the Circulation Desk Assistant.
-
You are financially responsible
for any damage to, or loss of Interlibrary Loan materials.
-
Request renewals three to five
days before the book is due.
