This guide provides basic user information in a tutorial format. For more information use the online Help option. "Help" is context-sentitive and provides detailed information on the current function.
EBSCO Online News
Any new information regarding EBSCO Online will be here. Click on "more news" to get more information.
ARTICLESearch
This option allows you to search for key words or phrases within article titles, abstracts, and full text.
Click on "ARTICLESearch."
For help with searching, click "Search Tips" at the bottom of the screen.
B. Select the criteria for your search, such as "Article Titles, Abstracts, & Full Text" or "Article Titles Only."
C. Select "Viewable on EBSCO Online" if you wish to include all titles that may be viewed and searched at the article level through EBSCO Online's software regardless of subscription (you will not be able to see the full text of any title not on subscription).
D. Click "Save to ARTICLESearch History" if you wish to save the search.
E. For search options other than keyword, click on "More Options."
F. Click "Search."
View the result list.
The search result is a list of citations with an abstract excerpt. You may change the display of the result list by clicking "Hide Abstract Excerpt" or show "Abstract Excerpt" to display the citation with or without abstract excerpts.
Icons are used to indicate:
A. Browse the screen by clicking the> to go forward in the listing or < to go back in the listing. The |< icon takes you back the first item in the listing while the >| icon takes you to the last items in the listing.
B. "Click Show Field Labels" to display labels for each part of the citation.
View the complete abstract by clicking the "Abstract" link or "more" at the end of the abstract excerpt.
Click the "Full Test" link to retrieve the complete text of the article.
"Full Text (Local PDF 31 KB)" means the article is retrieved locally from EBSCO's server, the file is in PDF format, and the size is 31 KB. Use the Adobe Acrobat reader to view PDF files; Adobe will automatically open when you click "Full Text".
"Full Text (Remote PDF)" means the article is retrieved remotely from the publisher's site, the file is in PDF format, and the size is unknown. Use the Adobe Acrobat reader to view PDF files; adobe will automatically open when you click "Full Text".
"Full Text (RealPage)" means the article is displayed using Catchword's RealPage reader. RealPage will automatically open when you click "Full Text"
Once the full text has been retrieved, click on "Open Full Text" to view the article.
Acrobat Tip: Click on the size (100%, etc.) at the bottom of the window, select Fit visible, and click OK. This sizes the article to your computer screen.
JOURNALSearch
This icon allows you to search for journals using keywords, publisher names, the journal content description or the ISSN.
Click on "JOURNALSearch".
B. Select "Title," "Publisher," "Content Description," or any combination of the three. If you wish to search by ISSN, you cannot include any of the other criteria in your search.
C. Select "Viewable on EBSCO Online" if you wish to include all titles that may be viewed and searched at the article level through EBSCO Online's software regardless of subscription (you will not be able to view the full text of any title not on subscription).
D. Select "Viewable on publisher's site" if you wish to include all titles that are available through a link to the publisher's web site.
E. Click "Save to JOURNALSearch History" if you wish to save your search.
F. Click "Search."
G. View the result list.
The JOURNALSearch result is a list of journal titles, their publishers and ISSN.
Icons are used to indicate:
Click on a journal title to view the Journal Home screen.
A. Click on the + [plus sign] next to a volume number to list available issues.
B. Click on any issue to get the table of contents for that issue and from there, you may view abstracts or go to the full text.
C. Click on "Journal Details" to get information provided by the publisher, including the scope of the journal, editors, submission requirements. (If the Journal Details link has the phrase Remote Site next to it, clicking this link will take you to the publisher's home page).
D. Click on each item (Editors, Submissions, etc.) to see the type of information available. "Resources" contains a list of web sites related to the journal or publisher, if the publisher supplies this information.
BROWSE
This option allows you to view an alphabetical list of e-journal titles. You can limit the list to only those titles to which you subscribe or you may view all titles, including those viewable on EBSCO Online and those that are available on a publisher's site.
Click on "BROWSE".
A. Select your search criteria (described in ArticleSearch and JournalSearch).
B. If desired, toggle to specific alphabetic sections by choosing the letter in the drop-down menu at "all".
C. Click on "Browse".
View the result list.
A. Browse the screen by clicking the > to go forward in the listing or < to go back in the listing. The |< icon takes you back the first item in the listing while the <| icon takes you to the last items in the listing.
B. Toggle to specific alphabetic sections by choosing the letter in the drop-down menu at "all" and clicking on the funnel icon.
Click on a journal title to view the Journal Home screen as described in JOURNALSearch section above.
Click on "Journal Details" to get the scope, editors, submission requirements, and resources of that particular journal as described in JOURNALSearch section above.

NOTE: These icons are only available if you have an individual password to EBSCO Online from your administrator.

A "Feedback" link is at the bottom of every screen to allow users to communicate with EBSCO. We encourage everyone to use the Feedback option for questions or comments.
The online HELP option is context sensitive. Use it anytime you would like further clarification or help with the system. If it does not provide the information you need, please contact us with the Feedback option, or contact your local Account Services Manager.
