Professor Nan DiBello to give opening address
at Wells Alumnae College and Reunion The 1998 Alumnae College program, "From Wrongs to Rights: Seneca Falls and Beyond" offered participants the opportunity to learn more about the 1848 Women's Rights Convention in nearby Seneca Falls. On Thursday evening, Professor Nan M. DiBello presented the opening address "Beyond Political Rights: The Larger Legacy of the Seneca Falls Convention". On Friday morning, two discussions were led by members of the Wells faculty. Professors Anne Russ and Leslie Miller-Bernal discussed different implications of the women's movement and women's education. Professors Beatrice Farnsworth and Michael Groth discussed the historical implications of the convention. On Friday afternoon, participants had an opportunity to visit the Women's Rights National Historical Park and other sites in Seneca Falls. Alumnae College faculty suggested the following books for alumnae interested in learning more about this year's topic.

The Bonds of Womanhood by Nancy Cott.
Feminism and Suffrage by Ellen Dubois (1978).
Dialectic of Sex by Sulamith Firestone (1970).
Alma Mater by Helen Horowitz.
Holy Warriors: The Abolitionists and American Slavery by James B. Stewart (1976).
Faces of Feminism: An Activist's Reflections on the Women's Movement by Shelia Tobias (1997).
