HOW TO CONNECT
Since connection software varies so widely, we cannot give detailed instructions on how this is done.  Some laptops have only the Microsoft software bundled with XP or Vista or the MacOS.  Other laptops have custom vendor specific utilities.  For example, some laptops now come with special "buttons" or side switches to enable and disable WiFi services easily and fancy scan screens so WiFi networks can be easily detected and connected to.

No matter what system you use, you should know that the WiFi signals in public areas are not encrypted and the SSIDs are broadcast.  So if your computer "scans" for an open network, it should be able to connect.

Wireless  POLICY
Currently, we only provide wired Ethernet jacks for the residence hall rooms..  Wells college does not provide wireless coverage to the dorms.  We do not guarantee any wireless equipment will work but we do encourage people to inform us by email or phone call if they  want to try using wireless equipment in their dorm room. We also ask the community to inform the RA's if any of the official locations above don't work.  Then they can contact us if they cannot solve the problem themselves.  (eg. in some lounges, "reseting" a WiFi router is usually as simple as unplugging it and plugging it back in)

We also reserve the right to prohibit use of personal WiFi equipment if other devices are affected in a negative way.  If any of the offical locations don't work, please contact the Network Services department at x3305 or x3485.  The hotspot list is expanding and we welcome suggestions for future locations.
