Visiting Writers Series Presents Kayleen Wilkinson '10
Alumna will present new work and reflect on pieces published as a Wells student.
Dorie's Bakery, Aurora, N.Y.
On Monday, November 11th, at 7:30, Wells alumna Kayleen Wilkinson ’10 will give the first-ever reading at the newly-reopened Dorie’s Bakery in Aurora.
Kayleen was the first Wells student to have work published in The Healing Muse. Her nonfiction essay, “Disappearing Act,” about her ultimate triumph over a life-threatening eating disorder, was published in the 2009 issue. Kayleen will read from “Disappearing Act,” but will also present new work which represents a different perspective on the problems introduced in that essay and a further thinking through of the issues involved. She will also talk about how her material might be adapted to dance, the stage, and video.
There is a display relating to Kayleen’s work in the Louis Jefferson Long Library. Her reading is sponsored in part by a grant from the New York State Council on the Arts.
The management of Dorie’s is very excited to host this inaugural event featuring a Wells alumna, and there will be coffee, baked goods, and ice cream available for sale. Dorie’s aims to become a coffee-house kind of venue for future readings by students as well as visiting writers.
