Wells' Visiting Writers Series welcomes poet Juliana Gray for a reading of her work on Wednesday, February 27th, at 7:30 p.m. in the Art Exhibit Room of Macmillan Hall. This reading, which is made possible in part by a grant from the New York State Council on the Arts, is free and open to the public. While on campus, Gray will also participate in classes and conduct a poetry writing workshop.
Gray, an Alabama native, is currently associate professor of English at Alfred University. She is author of two collections of poetry, "The Man Under My Skin" (2005) and "Roleplay" (2012), which won the 2010 Orphic Prize and was published by Dream Horse Press. Recent poems of hers have appeared in or are forthcoming from "Barrow Street," "Measure," "32 Poems," "River Styx" and elsewhere.
The author Barry Hannah called Juliana Gray "a beautiful and keen poet"; Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Claudia Emerson observed, "'Roleplay' is wildly imagined, flawlessly crafted--a stunning collection"; and poet Sandra Beasley commented, "Juliana Gray continues to dazzle with deft language and dark humor. This book is important...and each page an unexpected delight."
