"Worth & Measure" Senior Thesis Production
This original devised theatre piece explores what it means to be part of Wells' community.
Recital Hall, Barler Hall
The Wells College Theatre and Dance Department presents the fall semester Senior Thesis Production, Worth & Measure, directed by Jessica Bland ’13. Worth & Measure will play in the Recital Hall of Barler Hall on Friday, November 30 and Saturday, December 1. The doors open at 7 p.m., and the show starts at 7:30. Admission is free and all are invited.
Based on interviews from Wells College students, faculty, staff and alums, Worth & Measure is a devised theatre piece that depicts the deep connections that exist in the Wells community, and how these relationships grow and change over the years.
Worth & Measure immerses its audience in a night of grim celebration, centering on a group of soon-to-be-graduating seniors and their hopes and fears on moving away from Wells. As they question their experiences, they ask the audience what it will have meant to have been a part of this community, what it will mean to leave, and whether or not we can box these experiences up and pack them away into the dark.
Director Jessica Bland ’13, a senior at Wells, notes, “This production is a bittersweet love letter to Wells, co-written by our acting ensemble and the Wells community. Worth & Measure is devised theatre, meaning that we started this production from the ground up – no script, no characters, nothing. We’ve asked what it means to be a part of the Wells community, and what our production offers is a critical meditation on the answers we’ve received.”
Please note that this performance includes profanity, depictions of drug use and mature themes. It is not recommended for people under the age of 17.
