The Wells College Theatre Department presents the regional premier performance of Our Beds are Crowded: Seven Short Plays about Love, Fear and Sex, an original play by award-winning writer and Wells alumna Christie Perfetti. The performance will take place at 7:30 p.m. October 27, 28 and 29 in the auditorium of Barler Hall on the Wells College campus. Our Beds Are Crowded will be directed by Associate Professor of Theatre Siouxsie Easter as the Performing Arts Department Faculty Production for this semester.
The production features the talents of 12 current Wells College students ranging from freshmen to seniors. Technical director, facilities manager, and lecturer in performing arts Joe DeForest is coordinating set and lighting design. The play also features Ithaca actor Camilla Schade, who recently appeared in productions at the Kitchen Theatre and Theatre Incognita.
Christie Perfetti, who graduated from Wells in 2000, is an accomplished playwright, producer and author. She has written and produced eight original plays, the books Regular Coffee and Revolutions Per Minute, and articles for Jane Magazine and Woman’s World. Her work has been performed by Los Angeles’ Write Act West Repertory Theatre, Florida’s Women’s Theatre Project and New York City’s Richmond Shepard Theatre, Kraine Theater and Pantheon Theater.
Perfetti received a “Best of the Fest” award at the 2010 Girl Play Lesbian Play Reading Festival, was a finalist in the Fusion Theatre 2009 Playwriting Festival, and won the 2008 Oswego Players Playwriting Competition. As a student at Wells, she was recognized with the H. Helena Zachos Prize for fiction, the Class of 1905 Prize in Poetry, the Catherine B. Depau Prize for poetry, the Phoenix Literary Society Prize, and the Helen Gertrude Dean Award for dramatic expression.
During her senior year at Wells College, Perfetti staged a production of her play Carnival Girls, a one act play featuring original student choreography and music; she coordinated over 50 students during the production. In 2004, she debuted the same play off-Broadway with a 25 woman team. This year, she founded her own production company, Carnival Girls, dedicated to showcasing the talents of female artists. Carnival Girls will present and promote theatre, dance, films, writing, visual art, and web-based content.
Tickets for the production are $7 for General Admission, $5 for seniors and community members, and free for Wells Students, faculty, and staff.
