The Wells College Visiting Writers Series welcomes writer Lauren Belfer for a reading of her work. This event is free and open to the public.
Belfer will read from her new novel, A Fierce Radiance, a thriller set in the early days of World War II. Against this tumultuous backdrop, the novel tells the story of a Life magazine photojournalist who gets caught up in the investigation of a suspicious death at the Rockefeller Institute and the effort to prevent the control of the newly-developed miracle drug penicillin. A Fierce Radiance was named to the Washington Post’s list of the Best Novels of 2010.
Belfer received wide recognition for her debut novel, City of Light, which was a New York Times bestseller and Notable Book, and has been recognized by Book Sense, Barnes & Noble, Library Journal, and others. It has been translated into seven languages. Belfer has published other writings in the Michigan Quarterly Review, Shenandoah, the New York Times Book Review, Washington Post Book World, and Christian Science Monitor, among other sources.
After majoring in Medieval Studies at Swarthmore College, she went on to earn her M.F.A. from Columbia University. She has worked as an art gallery file clerk, paralegal, assistant photo editor at a newspaper, fact checker at magazines, and researcher and associate producer on documentary films. She currently lives in New York City.
