Introduction
Wells is now hosting its
inaugural Inclusive and Intercultural Excellence Series. A year-long event,
the series aims to deepen the community’s understanding of the issues of
interculturalism and inclusiveness at the institutional, local, national,
and global levels. For the 2008–09 academic year, the series’ theme is
“Transcending Boundaries through Democratic Practice.”
The Inclusive and Intercultural
Series invites speakers to address questions that are core to the practice
of inclusiveness and interculturalism. These questions include who counts,
what matters, and who decides and how. The series encourages community
members to consider these questions in light of current social, economic,
political, and educational systems, questioning how these systems could
be made more inclusive and what steps would be necessary to accomplish
that goal.
