Dear Wells Family

A message to our extended community from President Gibralter
March 19, 2020

To everyone in our Wells family:

This has truly been one of the most difficult times, that I can recall, in our nation's history. As I wrote to our students, faculty and staff a few days ago, it is often said that we stand on the shoulders of those who have come before us -- but it is equally true that we stand tall with those who walk this journey alongside us. I sincerely thank each and every one of you for your continued patience and support as we face the unknown. I hope you will take a moment to watch the video below regarding the actions we have taken in recent days to ensure the safety of our students, faculty, staff and entire community.

It has been incredibly heartening to hear about the offers of help that have been pouring in from alumni and other friends of Wells. Our team is working to develop ways to collect and share that information, and you will be hearing again from the College very soon with more details.

(Alumnae and alumni: please take a moment to update your contact information by clicking this link. We intend on communicating with our alumnae and alumni regularly throughout this crisis, so please make sure that we have your most up-to-date information. I also hope you will take a few moments to share this message with others whom you believe may not be on our email list.)

Many of you have asked about the status of Commencement, Reunion and other major events occurring this summer and fall. We have been debating our options and will update you as soon as we can. Traditions are such a core part of our shared Wells experience, and you have my word that we will do everything we can to preserve those traditions -- even if we are forced to celebrate them in a different way, or at a later time.

Finally, please bookmark our COVID-19 page at wells.edu/covid-19-updates, where we continue to post daily updates regarding the College’s response.

This is an extraordinary time in our history, and I am grateful to see our community responding with strength, care and understanding. You are all part of the Wells family, and I hope that your own family remains safe and healthy, now and in the days to come.

Jonathan Gibralter
President
