SUNDAY NIGHT SWIMMING RECAP       

February 28, 2010

Syracuse, N.Y.- The Wells College men's swimming team capped off one of their most successful season's in team history Sunday night, finishing 14th out of 16 teams at the N.Y. State Swimming Championship. The men's 400 Yard Freestyle Relay team was the only event the Express competed in on Sunday night finishing 15th with a time of 3:34.16.

RECORDS FALL IN DAY 3 OF SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIP

February 28, 2010

Syracuse, N.Y.- The Wells men's swimming team continued to set team records on Saturday afternoon, setting three new school records at the N.Y. State Swimming Championship at Nottingham H.S. in Syracuse. The men's 400 Yard Medley Relay team was the only event the Express qualified to swim in the evening final. The team finished with a time of 3:35.86 good for 14th in the A relay group.

SATURDAY NIGHT SWIMMING RECAP       

February 27, 2010

Syracuse, N.Y.- Jeffrey Dick and the men's 200 Yard Medley Relay team both swam in the Saturday night final at the N.Y. State Swimming Championship. The medley relay team, swam by Dick, Michael Scharvella, Drew Teter, and Court Carnahan took 14th with a time of 1:48.01, while Dick took 23rd with a time of 1:03.45. Wells currently sits at 14th out of 16 teams through 13 events with 102 points. The championship concludes this evening.

DICK SET TO SWIM IN SATURDAY NIGHT FINAL

Syracuse, N.Y.- Jeffrey Dick did what no other swimmer has done before at Wells College on Saturday morning, qualifying to swim in an individual final event at the N.Y. State Swimming Championship tonight starting at 6:30 p.m. Dick shaved off over a second from his school record time in the men's 100 Yard Breaststroke finishing 22nd with a time of 1:02.76; only the top 24 swimmers qualify to swim the evening final.

MEN'S 200 YARD FREESTYLE RELAY TEAM TAKES 15TH IN FRIDAY EVENING'S FINAL           

February 26, 2010

Syracuse, N.Y.- The men's 200 Yard Freestyle Relay Team swam by Michael Scharvella, Court Carnahan, Jeffrey Dick, and Drew Teter used a record setting time in the preliminary round on Friday morning to reach the finals, and they continued that trend Friday evening setting a new school record just six hours later with a time of 1:37.10 to take 15th out of 24 teams in the final of the 200 freestyle relay in the N.Y. State Championship at Nottingham H.S. in Syracuse.

Syracuse, N.Y.- The Wells College men’s swimming team set a new team record in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, qualifying for the evening final, while Michael Scharvella and Jeffrey Dick each set individual team records in Friday morning's opening preliminary round of the New York State Swimming Championship being held at Nottingham H.S. in Syracuse.

Syracuse, N.Y.- Wells College women’s swim missed the final round cuts for the second straight day. Despite missing the cut, the women’s swim continued to set individual bests in each event, setting eight new personal best on Day 2.

Syracuse, N.Y.- The Wells women's swim team opened up Day One of the New York State Swimming Championship on Thursday afternoon. The Express swam in four preliminary events, despite not qualifying for the final round events held in the evening, there we six best times set on day.

REAL TIME RESULTS TO BE PROVIDED FOR WOMEN'S SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIP

Aurora, N.Y.- The women’s swimming team will be competing in the New York State Swimming Championship being held at Nottingham H.S. in Syracuse begining tomorrow morning and running through Saturday evening. The preliminary rounds will be held at 10:30 a.m. each day, while the final rounds will be held at 6:30 a.m. each day.  Results of each heat will be posted in real time starting with the preliminary round on Thursday at 10:30. MEN'S SWIMMING MAKES HISTORY WITH FIRST NEAC CHAMPIONSHIP

February 8, 2010

Aurora, N.Y.-  The Wells College men’s swimming team made history on Saturday evening capturing the first North Eastern Athletic Conference Championship in school history. The Express finished with a two day total of 470.5, topping NEAC rivals SUNYIT (410.5 pts.), Cazenovia College (295 pts.), and SUNY Cobleskill (180 pts.) for the title. In the three years as a member of the NEAC, Wells has made only two appearances in the conference championship, women’s tennis in 2007 and men’s basketball in 2008-2009, both teams came up short in their bid for championship.

WOMEN'S SWIMMING NEAC CHAMPIONSHIP REVIEW

February 8, 2010

Aurora, N.Y.-  The Wells women’s swimming team bid for their first NEAC Championship fell short on Saturday afternoon finishing second in the five team championship. Cazenovia took the top spot with a score of 508, Wells took runner-up with 369 points. College of St. Elizabeth was third with 341, SUNYIT was fourth with 182 and SUNY Cobleskill was fifth with 133. Despite the second place finish the Express finished with a successful championship.

MEN'S SWIMMING CAPTURES NEAC CROWN, WOMEN FINISH SECOND
Jeffrey Dick Named NEAC Men's Swimmer of the Year

Cazenovia, N.Y.-  The Wells College men's swimming team captured their first ever North Eastern Athletic Conference Championship, and first NEAC championship in school history, on Saturday afternoon at Cazenovia. Wells finished with 470.5 points to lead the men’s contingent, while the women's team finished second to Cazenovia College (508 pts) with 369 points.

MEN'S AND WOMEN'S SWIMMING SECOND THROUGH DAY ONE OF NEAC CHAMPIONSHIP

February 5, 2010

Cazenovia, N.Y.-  In women's actions Cazenovia posted a team score of 260 to earn the women’s top spot. Wells College was second with 189 and College of Saint Elizabeth was third with 160. SUNYIT finished fourth with 87 points and SUNY Cobleskill placed fifth with 73 points. In men's action SUNYIT took top honors by posting 228.5 points. Wells College came in second at 221.5, Cazenovia finished third with 144 and Cobleskill placed fourth with 101 points.

MEN'S SWIMMING DEFEATS CAZENOVIA

Aurora, N.Y.-  The Wells College men’s swimming team took first in eight of eleven events as they cruised to the 57-32 victory over the Cazenovia College Wildcats on Saturday afternoon at Wells. Jeffrey Dick (Albion, N.Y.), Drew Teter (Campbell, N.Y.), and Michael Scharvella (Craryville, N.Y.) each had two first place finishes to lead the Express men.

SWIMMING FALLS TO MANSFIELD/PITT-BRADFORD

January 23, 2010

Mansfield, PA-  The Wells College women's swim team finished in third place with 79 points in the tri-meet featuring Mansfield University and Pitt-Bradford on Saturday afternoon at Mansfield. Mansfield took first with 144 points, while Bradford finished second with 133 points. In men's action Wells fell to Pitt-Bradford 145-67.

SWIMMING FALLS TO BUFFALO STATE

Aurora, NY-  The Buffalo State College swimming team placed first in the first seven events in both the men’s and women’s swim meet as they defeated the Wells College Express 59-34 on the women’s side and 51-34 on the men’s side Wednesday evening at Wells.

CARNAHAN SELECTED AS NEAC SWIMMER OF THE WEEK

December 8, 2009

Aurora, NY-Senior Court Carnahan (Rochester, NY) was selected as the NEAC Men’s Swimming and Diving Student-Athlete of the Week for his outstanding effort this week leading the Wells College Express in a dual against Kings College. The senior finished 1st in the 200 yard Freestyle with a time of 2:16.66 and 1st in the 500 yard Freestyle with a time of 6:34.31, while helping his team win 1st in the 400 yard Freestyle Relay with a time of 4:09.44. The Express defeated Kings 122-23 on Saturday afternoon.

Wilkes-Barre, PA- The Wells College men’s swimming team steadily defeated Kings College 122-23 while the women’s swim team dropped their meet 107-80 on Saturday afternoon at Kings College in Wilkes-Barre, PA.

ROSS AND TETER EARN NEAC STUDENT ATHLETE OF THE WEEK AWARD

Aurora, NY- Junior Jackie Ross and sophomore Drew Teter have been named North Eastern Athletic Conference Swimming Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending 11/22. The awards marks the second straight week Jackie Ross has been named NEAC Women's Swimming Student Athlete of the Week.

MEN’S AND WOMEN’S SWIMMING TAKES FIRST AT DONALD MACOMBER STARTING BLOCK CLASSIC

Aurora, NY- Both the men’s and women’s swim team made it a clean sweep at the Donald Macomber Starting Block Classic, taking first place in both meets, defeating SUNY Cobleskill and SUNY Delhi on Thursday night at Cobleskill. The Men’s team took first place with 375 total points while SUNY Delhi took 2nd with a score of 294 points with SUNY Cobleskill finishing 3rd with a team score of 286. The women’s team took first with a total score of 477 points, SUNY Delhi took second with 290 points, while SUNY Cobleskill finished 3rd with 253 points.

Aurora, NY- The Wells College women’s swim team cruised to a 70-24 victory over the College of St. Elizabeth, taking first in every event on Saturday afternoon at Wells. The win improves the women’s dual meet record to 2-2 on the year.

Utica, NY- The Utica College men’s and women’s swim team jumped out to a 50 point lead with their dive team before the swim portion of the night even began as the Wells College Express men’s team fell 136-129, while the women’s team was defeated 160-107 on Wednesday night in Utica.

Aurora, NY- The SUNY Brockport Men’s and Women’s Swim Team made it a clean sweep of the Wells Express defeating the men’s team 73-43 and the women’s team 74-34 on Saturday afternoon at Wells. The loss drops the men’s team 0-2 while the women’s team fell to 1-1 in dual meet action.

VILLIOTTI NAMED NEAC STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

11/3/09

Aurora, NY- Idolyn Villiotti (Amherst, NH) was selected as the NEAC Women’s Swimming and Diving Student-Athlete of the Week for her three 1st place finishes for the Wells College Express. The sophomore won the 50 Yard Freestyle with a 29:16 time, the 100 Yard Fly with a 1:12.66 time, and the 200 Yard Free Relay with a time of 2:01.66. Villiotti led her Express team to a 66-28 thumping of SUNYIT as she accounted for 17 of her team’s 66 total points.

Aurora, NY- The Wells women’s swimming team won the first four events of the 22 event meet as they cruised to a 66-28 victory over the visiting SUNY IT Wildcats on Friday evening at Wells. The Express men’s team was less fortunate as SUNY IT clinched the meet in the final event, defeating the Express in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay for the 52-43 victory.

MEN'S AND WOMEN'S SWIMMING FINISH FOURTH AT HARTWICK RELAYS

 

10/18/09
Oneonta, NY- Both the Wells men’s and women’s swim teams opened up the 2009-2010 swim season by finishing fourth out of five teams at the Hartwick Relays held on Saturday afternoon at Hartwick. Hartwick took the top spot with 124 points in the men’s meet and 168 points in the women’s meet.  Wells men’s team finished with 42 points besting SUNYIT while the women’s team finished with 32 points beating out Cazenovia for the fourth spot.
