Elly Ventura
Head Athletic Trainer

Elly Ventura will serve as the head athletic trainer. She will lead and manage the athletic training functions for Wells’ 11 intercollegiate sports and coordinate with team physician Dr. Andy Getzin. Ventura most recently worked at Castleton State College where she provided athletic training services to 22 NCAA Division III athletic teams and served as athletic training education program clinical coordinator. 

She holds a B.A. in sports medicine/athletic training and psychology from Capital University and an M.A. in exercise science from Central Michigan University. She moved here with her husband Jamey from Vermont. 


 
 
 

Deb Pickering

Deb Pickering, who came to Wells in 2005, has been promoted to associate athletic trainer and 
fitness coordinator. In this new capacity, she will provide athletic training for student-athletes and 
coordinate sports conditioning and wellness initiatives. She earned her M.A. in exercise and wellness promotion from Slippery Rock University and a B.S. in athletic training from Alfred University. 
Both Ventura and Pickering will implement wellness programming at the College and teach in the 
physical education program. 

Andrew Getzin, MD
Dr. Getzin is the team physician for all the sports teams at Wells College.  He is a board certified family physician with a certificate of added qualification in sports medicine. He received his undergraduate degree in History at Amherst College. 
He attending medical school at UMDNJ-Newark and did his Family Medicine Residency at Brown University in Rhode Island.  Dr. Getzin completed his training with a one year Sports Medicine Fellowship at the Ohio State University.

Dr. Getzin played college football as a defensive lineman. He played rugby at New Jersey Medical School and during his residency with the Providence Rugby Club. He is the founder of the Ithaca Triathlon Club and participates in running races from 5Ks to marathons to triathlons. He recently completed the 2006 Lake Placid Ironman in just over 11 hours.

Sports Medicine Program
The Sports Medicine program at Wells College is committed to providing prompt, comprehensive medical care to all Wells College student-athletes. Services offered by the sports medicine staff include immediate emergency care, evaluation of injuries utilizing therapeutic modalities and exercise techniques, protective padding, taping, and bracing. The following modalities are available: cryotherapy, moist heat, whirlpools, and ultrasound.
