PAULINO SIGNS PROFESSIONAL CONTRACT WITH SEATTLE MOUNTAINEERS OF THE ABA

Aurora, N.Y.- Wells College men’s basketball player Juan Paulino (Bronx, N.Y./Finger Lakes C.C.) is moving on to play professional basketball. The 6-7 center recently inked a deal to play with the Seattle Mountaineers of the American Basketball Association (ABA). Paulino is coming off an outstanding senior season at Wells in which he led all of NCAA Division III in rebounds per game (16.5) and field goal percentage (.699), while averaging 17.1 points per game. “We are extremely pleased to sign a player of Juan’s ability and he will help sure up our rebounding concerns,” stated Mountaineers Head Coach Don Sims.

BULLOCK ADDS TO POST-SEASON AWARDS

Aurora, N.Y.- Senior guard Darrell Bullock of the Wells College men’s basketball team has been named to the Basketball Coaches Association of New York Upstate All-BCANY Division III Second Team for his outstanding senior season at Wells. This is Bullock’s third post-season award, earning Second Team All-East Region honors from D3Hoops. com, while also earning North Eastern Athletic Conference 1st Team Honors.

BULLOCK AND PAULINO SELECTED TO D3HOOPS.COM ALL-EAST REGION TEAM

March 16, 2010

Aurora, N.Y.- Seniors Darrell Bullock (Chicago, Ill./Olive Harvey C.C.) and Juan Paulino (Bronx, N.Y./Finger Lakes C.C.) of the Wells College men’s basketball team have been selected to the D3Hoops.Com All-East Region Second Team announced on Tuesday. Winners of the award included players from Nazareth, SUNYIT, Hobart, Ithaca, Plattsburg State, and Oneonta State. The award recognizes the top ten players in each region across the country, with over 650 players nominated.

PAULINO, BULLOCK, AND JONES EARN ALL-CONFERENCE HONORS      

March 7, 2010

Aurora, N.Y.- Wells College men’s basketball senior’s Juan Paulino and Darrell Bullock were both named NEAC First Team All-Conference, while sophomore Greg Jones earned third team honors recently released by the North Eastern Athletic Conference. The three players helped lead the Express to a 21-7 overall record and the No. 2 seed in the NEAC tournament. Wells fell 99-71 to SUNY IT in the championship game.

SUNYIT OVERPOWERS WELLS IN CONFERENCE FINAL

February 28, 2010

Middleton, Pa.- The Wells men’s basketball team fell to  No. 1 seed SUNY IT Wildcats, 99-71, in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) men's basketball championship game on Sunday afternoon at Penn. St. Harrisburg in Middleton, Pa. It was the second straight year the Express have fell to the Wildcats in the conference final. No. 2 seed Wells finishes the season at 21-7, while the Wildcats improve to 24-4 and clinch the NEAC automatic bid to the NCAA tournament set to begin later in the week.

WELLS TROUNCES NITTANY LIONS
Express Clinch Spot In NEAC Title Game

February 27, 2010

Middleton, Pa.- Five different players scored in double-figures for the No. 2 seed Wells College Express (21-6) as they went on to defeat No. 3 seed Penn. St. Harrisburg (16-11) 103-82 in the semifinal round of the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Men’s Basketball Tournament on Saturday afternoon in Middleton, Pa. Juan Paulino (Bronx, N.Y./Finger Lakes C.C.) chalked up his 16th straight double-double with 25 points and 20 rebounds, while Greg Jones (Alexandria, Va./West Potomac) dropped a double-double of his own with 24 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Express. Kenton Alston scored a game high 28 points in the loss for the Nittany Lions. It is the second straight year Wells has reached the NEAC Championship Game.

WELLS ADVANCES TO SEMIFINALS WITH WIN OVER KEUKA

Middleton, Pa.- The Wells College men’s basketball team pulled away with six minutes remaining in the second half as the No. 2 seed Express defeated No. 7 seed Keuka College 77-67 in the quarterfinals of the North Eastern Athletic Conference tournament at Penn. St. Harrisburg in Middleton, Pa. Greg Jones (Alexandria, Va./West Potomac) scored a game high 22 points, Rionn Pradia (Houston, Texas/Appomattox) added 17, while Juan Paulino (Bronx, N.Y./Finger Lakes C.C.) finished with 16 points and 17 rebounds to lead the Express.

WELLS MEN’S BASKETBALL GAME MOVED TO 5:00 P.M.

D3Hoops.com, considered the No. 1 Source for Division III basketball information, selects the top five weekly performances from across the nation. It is the first time that Paulino has received this award.

WELLS MEN’S BASKETBALL SET FOR NEAC TOURNAMENT           

February 25, 2010

Aurora, N.Y.- The Wells College men’s basketball team is set to make their 2010 run at the North Eastern Athletic Conference championship. The Express earned the second seed in the upcoming tournament and will take on the No. 7 seed Keuka College (9-15) on Friday, Feb. 26 at 7:00 p.m. at Penn. St. Harrisburg in Middleton, Pa. Keuka defeated No. 10 seed Cazenovia College 83-70 on Tuesday evening to advance to the quarterfinals of the tournament.

PAULINO EARNS FOURTH NEAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK AWARD

February 22, 2010

Aurora, N.Y.- Senior Juan Paulino (Bronx, NY) was selected as the NEAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the second week in a row and fourth time this season.  Paulino led the Wells College Express to a perfect 2-0 week against NEAC opponents.  He finished the week with 61 points (30.5/game), 50 rebounds (25/game), 4 blocks, 3 assists, and 3 steals.  Paulino also had a shooting percentage of .703 and made 9-18 free throws (.500 percent from the line).  In their first contest, a 100-75 victory over Cazenovia, Paulino finished with 25 points and 23 rebounds.  In their second game, Paulino had a career game in an 82-70 victory over Penn State-Harrisburg  turning in 36 points and 27 rebounds.  His points total was a new career high and his rebounding total was both a new career high as well as a new school record. (Courtesy of the NEAC)

CAREER DAY FOR PAULINO LEADS EXPRESS OVER NITTANY LIONS

February 21, 2010

Harrisburg, Pa.- Senior Juan Paulino (Bronx, N.Y./Finger Lake C.C.) showed why he was one of the best players in the country Sunday afternoon scoring 36 points, while single handedly out rebounding rival Penn. St. Harrisburg (15-10), 27 to 20, as the Wells College Express (19-6) cruised over the Nittany Lions 82-70 in the final game of the regular season for both clubs. Paulino set career highs in points, rebounds, and field goals made (14) on the day, while leading the Express to their sixth straight win.

EXPRESS TAME WILDCATS

February 17, 2010

Cazenovia, N.Y.- Greg Jones scored a career high 30 points, hitting six three pointers, while Juan Paulino scored 25 points and grabbed 23 rebounds as the Wells College men's basketball team (18-6) defeated the Cazenovia College Wildcats 100-75 on Wednesday night in Cazenovia, N.Y. Darnell Sampson and Cameron Smith led the Wildcats (2-21) with 15 points each in the loss.

PAULINO EARNS THIRD NEAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK AWARD

February 15, 2010

Aurora, N.Y.- Juan Paulino (Bronx, NY) was selected as the NEAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week for this week!!! Paulino led the men’s basketball team to a perfect 3-0 week against NEAC opponents. He finished the week with 65 points (21.7/game), 62 rebounds (20.7/game), 10 assists (3.3/game), 5 steals and 6 blocks. Paulino also made 21-26 free throws (.808 percent from the charity stripe) and had a .733 shooting percentage. In their first contest Paulino tied his career high in rebounds with 26, while scoring 23 points in a 88-60 win over Morrisville State. In a 92-67 victory over Penn State-Berks, he finished with 21 points and 24 rebounds before ending the week with 21 points and 12 rebounds in a 72- 68 victory over Penn State-Abington. EXPRESS FIGHT OFF NITTANY LIONS

Aurora, N.Y.- The Wells College men’s basketball team (17-6) held off a late rally by the pesky Penn. St. Abington Nittany Lions (5-17) and Juan Paulino (Bronx, N.Y./Finger Lakes C.C.) finished with a game high 21 points and 12 rebounds in 22 minutes as the Express held on for a 72-68 victory on Sunday afternoon in Aurora, N.Y. William Alton and Corey Curtis (Philadelphia, Pa./BOK Tech) led four Nittany Lions in double figures with 18 points and 17 respectively in the loss.

Aurora, N.Y.- Juan Paulino (Bronx, N.Y./Finger Lakes C.C.) finished with 23 points and a season high 26 rebounds as the Wells College men’s basketball team (15-6) cruised to an 88-60 victory over the visiting Morrisville State Mustangs (7-13) on Wednesday evening at Wells. Ron Tarver (Utica, N.Y./Proctor) led all Mustang scorers with 19 points while Francis Dolloway (Brooklyn, N.Y) chipped in with ten.

PAULINO/WELLS RANK AMONGST BEST IN THE NATION

Aurora, N.Y.- Senior center Juan Paulino (Bronx, N.Y./Finger Lakes C.C.) of the Wells College Express continues to be one of the best post players in Division III. Through February 9, Paulino ranks first in the nation in rebounds at 14.9, first in field goal percentage at 70 percent, while ranking 12th in the nation in block shots at 2.6.

Cobleskill, N.Y.- Darrell Bullock scored a game high 29 points and Juan Paulino added 17 points and 15 rebounds as the Wells College men's basketball team (14-6) rolled over the SUNY Cobleskill Fighting Tigers (7-13) 75-60 on Sunday afternoon at Cobleskill. Donovan Johnson led the Fighting Tigers with 20 points, while Damon Franklin chipped in with 12 points, six assists, and seven rebounds.

EXPRESS FALL TO SUNY IT, 91-83

Utica, N.Y.- Diloo Brown fell one rebound shy of a triple-double (21,11,9) and reigning NEAC Player of the Year David Golembiowski tallied a game high 34 points as the SUNY IT Wildcats (15-4) upended the Express (13-6) 91-83 on Saturday afternoon in Utica, N.Y. Darrell Bullock finished with 21 points, six assists, and six rebounds, while Juan Paulino added 19 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Express, who lost for just the second time in their last 11 games.

PAULINO EARNS SECOND NEAC STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK AWARD

Aurora, N.Y.-  Juan Paulino (Bronx, N.Y.), a senior center for the Wells College men’s basketball team, led his team to a 1-0 week against NEAC opponents. In their only contest, a 114-88 win over PSU Harrisburg, Paulino tallied 19 points and 18 rebounds. He also added 5 steals, 3 assists, 3 blocks and a .818 shooting percentage in the performance that put the Express into second place in the NEAC standings. Aurora, N.Y.-  Darrell Bullock (Chicago) finished with 29 points and seven assists and Greg Jones (Alexandria, Va.) added 21 points and seven assists of his own as the Wells College men’s basketball team (12-5) steadily defeated Penn. St. Harrisburg 114-88 on Saturday afternoon at Wells. Steve Jones (Harrisburg, Pa.) led four Nittany Lions in double-figures with 22 points and six rebounds. The loss snaps a six game winning streak for the Nittany Lions who fell to 11-6.

EXPRESS WEATHER STORM

Keuka Park, NY-  Greg Jones (Alexandria, VA) finished with a game high 21 points and Juan Paulino (Bronx, N.Y.) tallied 11 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to help the Wells College men’s basketball team (11-5) cruise to an 83-66 victory over the Keuka College Storm (5-8) on Saturday afternoon. Aurora, NY-  Morrisville State College’s Andrew VanDyke (Bronx, NY) converted a lay-up with four seconds remaining to lift the Mustangs to a 72-71 upset victory over Wells College Wednesday night in Morrisville. Darrell Bullock finished with a game high 18 points, while Jarrell Williams chipped in with 15 points to lead the Express. The loss snaps the Express' six game winning streak.

Aurora, NY- Senior Darrell Bullock (Chicago, IL) was selected as the NEAC Men’s Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week. Bullock, a senior guard for the Wells College Express (10-4), led his team to a 2-0 week and first place in the NEAC. He finished the week with 48 points (24/game), 10 rebounds (5/game), 7 assists, 4 steals, 3-for-4 from beyond the arc, 11-for-14 from the charity stripe and a .586 shooting percentage. In the first game of the week against Green Mountain College, Bullock scored 29 points with 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. In the second game against NEAC opponent Penn State Berks, he added 19 points and 5 rebounds. Bullock currently ranks third in the NEAC in scoring at 19.1 ppg and third in assists per game at 4.3. Bullock receives this award for the second time this season.

 

EXPRESS ROLL OVER NITTANY LIONS

January 17, 2010

Aurora, NY- The Wells College men's basketball team extended their winning streak to six on Sunday afternoon, rolling over the Penn St. Berks Nittany Lions 91-80. Darrell Bullock led the Express with a team high 19 points, while Rionn Pradia chipped in with 15 points. The Nittany Lions were led by Dontale King who finished with a game high 20 points.

Aurora, NY- The Wells College men’s basketball team (9-4) led by 18 points after the first half and continued to roll in the second half blowing out visiting Green Mountain College Eagles (3-7) 103-63 on Saturday afternoon at Wells. The Fighting Tigers were led by Damon Franklin (Flint, MI/Mott C.C.) with 18 points and Carl Thomas (Pomona, NY/Rockland C.C.) with a team high 12 rebounds.

EXPRESS ROLL TO DOMINATING VICTORY OVER CAZENOVIA

Saratoga Springs, NY- The Skidmore College men’s basketball team jumped out to an early 6-0 lead and led by as many as 31 points in the second half, as they cruised to the 102-74 victory over the Wells College Express in the consolation game of the Skidmore Hilton Garden Inn Invitational on Saturday afternoon at Skidmore. The Thoroughbreds improve to 6-1, while the Express fall to 4-4.

EXPRESS FALL IN FINAL MINUTE TO YORK

Saratoga Springs, NY- The Wells men's basketball team relinquished a 17 point lead at the halftime falling to York College, 95-92, in the second game of the Skidmore Hilton Garden Inn Invitational on Friday evening at Skidmore. Juan Paulino finished with a career high 31 points and 10 rebounds in the loss. The Express fall to 4-3 on the season while York improves to 3-4. The win was also the 300th for York's head coach Ronald St. John.

Aurora, NY- Sophomore Greg Jones (Alexandria, V.A) scored a game high 24 points and freshmen Matt Duffy (Huntington, N.Y) chipped in with 14 points as the Wells College men’s basketball team rolled over the Hilbert College Hawks  (1-5) 94-61 on Monday night at Wells. Nick Piccone (North Chili, N.Y.) finished with 13 points to lead the Hawks in the loss. Wells has now won three straight and four of their last five games improving to 4-2 on the season.

Gary Kwiecien led the Saxons with 18 points in the loss. The Express improve to 2-2 on the season while the Saxons fall to 3-2.

MEDAILLE HOLDS ON TO DEFEAT EXPRESS

Aurora, NY- The Medaille College Mavaricks used a suffocating defense in the final minutes holding on to defeat the Wells Express 78-73 in men’s basketball action Saturday afternoon at Medaille. The Mavericks were led by Keith Hack who finished with 24 points and seven rebounds. Senior Darrell Bullock led the Express with a game high 29 points while sophomore Greg Jones chipped in with 20 points. The loss drops the Express to 1-2 while the Mavericks stay undefeated at 3-0.

Express guard Darrell Bullock finished with a team high 15 points in the victory. D’Youville was led by Raysean Johnson who finished with a game high 16 points.

LATE RALLY SINKS EXPRESS IN HOME OPENER

Aurora, NY- The Hartwick College Hawks men’s basketball team went on a 12-5 run over the final five minutes of play sealing the 66-59 victory over the Wells College Express on Sunday afternoon at the Frances Tarlton Farenthold Field House in Aurora. Mark Blazek (Erie, PA) led the Hawks with 24 points, including 19 points in the second half, while Darrell Bullock (Chicago) paced the Express with 20 points. Juan Paulino (Bronx) recorded the lone double-double for the Express with 13 points and 12 rebounds along with four blocks and four steals.
