Despite season highs of 26 points, 26 rebounds
and six blocks by junior Juan Paulino (Bronx, NY), the Wells
College Express went on to drop an overtime thriller 105-103 to
the Cazenovia College Wildcats on Tuesday night.
Down 94-90 with 1:18 left on the clock,
freshmen Bryan Wight (Cazenovia, NY) would hit two free throws
to pull Wells within two at 94-92. On the Wells ensuing
possession, freshmen Andre Sawyers (Bronx, NY) would put back a
missed jumper by Wight to tie the game at 94-94 with 26 seconds
left in the game. The Express would have a chance to win the
game in regulation, but freshmen Matt Condy (Seaford, NY) would
have his three pointer rattle off the rim sending the game into
overtime.
In overtime, the Express would find themselves
down 105-103 with nine seconds left. Condy would again be left
with the final shot, but his three pointer as time expired came
up short giving the Wildcats the two point victory.
Including Paulino, the Express had five total
players score in double figures. Sawyers finished with 23 points
and eight rebounds, Wight finished with 18 points, while Condy
and junior Tony Parker (Sodus, NY) each finished with 12 points.
The Express will next take on Penn. St Berks
at Wells on Thursday, January 22 at 7:00 pm.
