Searching for Journal Titles in Anthropology and Sociology
Anthropology and sociology are interdisciplinary in nature. Relevant articles will be found across many areas of inquiry including the social sciences, sciences, arts, and humanities. These databases include the full text of articles in a broad array of scholarly journals
and periodicals, including journals in anthropology and sociology. Some also include
newspapers and general interest publications.

AnthroSource
AnthroSource includes the full text of current and historical content from journals
published by the American Anthropological Association. Choose "advanced search" or
"browse journals" to begin searching or browsing. Coverage: 1888 to present.
Annual Reviews
AR gathers and summarizes (or reviews) current research. You may search across the
social sciences or limit your search to anthropology or sociology. Coverage varies.
Generally full text is available for the last ten years with indexing from 1972 to
the present.
SocINDEX
Index and abstracts to journals, books and monographs, and conference papers. Coverage:
1895 to present.
Social Sciences Index Index Tables R 050 qR28s S
Annual print author and subject index to publications in the social sciences, including
anthropology. Coverage: 1974 to present.

America: History & Life and Historical Abstracts
Citations and abstracts for journal articles, book reviews, and dissertations on
North American and world history and culture, with links to full text where available.
Covers historical topics and a variety of disciplines including popular culture, gender
studies, anthropology, literature, and folklore. Coverage: Historical Abstracts -
1955 to present, America: History & Life - 1964 to present.
RDS Contemporary Women's Issues (CWI)
Online index covering reports, fact sheets, guides, and journal articles on health
and human rights relating to women with links to full text where available. Coverage:
1986 to present.
Locating Books
Due to the interdisciplinary nature of both anthropology and sociology, books are
shelved throughout the library. Core anthropology collections are in the 570s on the first floor and in the 300s on the third floor. Core sociology collections are in the 300s on the third floor.

Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR) Data Archive
The ICPSR archives data sets in aging, health, childcare, education, criminology,
demography, substance abuse, and other areas of the social sciences.
National Criminal Justice Reference Service
Statistics on crime and related activity from the U.S. Department of Justice.
FedStats
Gateway to statistics gathered and published by the federal government including ChildStats and the U.S Census Bureau's Statistical Abstract of the United States (current and historical).
World Values Survey (WVS)
The WVS provides detailed political, social, and cultural data on the values and beliefs
of over 80 societies worldwide since 1981.
Reference Works
Encyclopedias and other reference works provide concise information about persons,
events, and ideas, and may be a good place to start your research. Print reference
works are shelved in the stacks near the main desk. Selected titles include:

Evaluating and Citing Your Sources
Check with your instructor to determine if they have a preferred citation style. The American Anthropological Association (AAA) recommends the Chicago Manual of Style. AAA provides an outline of style rules basic to AAA style. A print copy of the American Sociological Association (ASA) Style Guide is available in reference.
