Performing Arts Major
The performing arts major provides concentrated study in music, dance, or theatre along with exploration of interdisciplinary connections among them. Students may emphasize either performance and physical skills or critical and aesthetic analysis, while gaining experience in both. The study of history, theory, and stylistic analysis of Western performing arts in a global context leads to significant cultural-intellectual inquiry, valid in its own right, which also informs the interpretive technique of the performer. Performing arts majors develop leadership qualities of self-assurance and personal responsibility and may follow careers in performance, stage or arts management, teaching and writing, producing, directing, choreography, creative arts therapy, and entertainment law.

Professor Crawford Thoburn
Chair, Performing Arts
The total number of courses required for the performing arts major is the equivalent of 15-19 courses of 3-4 semester hours (43-55 semester hours). The equivalent of at least six courses taken for the major must be at the 300-level or above.
