OFF CAMPUS STUDY
Berlin, Germany
  • What are the requirements to participate in an off campus program?  Approval for Study Abroad at Wells is separate from admission into a study abroad program.  In order to be approved for study abroad, you must have spent at least one semester at Wells, be registered to take OCS 271B Cross Cultural Preparation the semester before going abroad, be in good academic and behavioral standing, have no past-due financial balances, and have the approval of your academic/major advisor as well as the director of academic advising.

  •
  • How do I get an application for approval to study abroad?  The packet you will need to be approved to study abroad is available on this site, or from Amy Torea in Cleveland 207, from the Director, Off Campus Studies, John Wells in Cleveland 200, or from a Program Director or Advisor.  Please remember that the application for approval to study abroad is separate from the application for a study abroad program which you can obtain from the Program Director/Advisor.

  •
  • How much will it cost to study abroad?  There is no one answer to this as program costs vary.  However, if you do apply for an affiliated program you can expect to pay Wells College tuition, room and board.  If that amount is less than the program cost plus airfare (included in some programs but not all), Wells will cover all of those costs for you.  In some cases where the program fee is more than Wells tuition, room and board for the semester you may be liable for a surcharge.  Please consult with the Controller, Susan Weatherby, for specific information.  Also, please note that this policy is only effective for one semester.  Students wishing to study abroad for a year or during two separate semesters will be treated as though they are on an un-affiliated program during the second semester.

  •
  • How will credits transfer?  It’s important that you discuss with your major/academic advisor the courses you plan on taking before you go abroad.  With the approval of your advisor, you may use courses to fulfill major or general requirements for a BA.  If you are on an affiliated program your grades will transfer back and count toward your GPA.  Students on an unaffiliated program will receive pass/fail only and need to obtain a grade of C- or better in order to receive a Pass.

  •
  • What if I am not interested in any of the affiliated programs?   If the affiliated programs do not fit your academic or cultural objectives, you are free to apply to study on an un-affiliated program.  Your institutional aid will not be available and you will have to take a leave-of-absence for the semester.  Students exploring non-affiliated programs should speak with John Wells before applying to any program.
